The story is boring and uninspired. The dialogues seem as if they were written by ten-year-olds. I don't like the art design. The graphics look blurry and overexposed. It is not possible to interact with the environment. It's really magical that the spells that disintegrate enemies and break loot crates have no effect on wooden barrels and friendly npc. The world just feels sterile and lifeless. The inhabitants are in a never ending war and all look like they are going to a parade. No mud, dirt or blood. No scratches or other damage. The protagonist is a wannabe funny half-wit who, after losing all his friends who are like family to him, doesn't grieve or get angry for 30 seconds. The rest of the main npc seem straight out of a diversity casting. A female black boss, a wannabe smart oriental lieutenant, a bodybuilding woman who is addressed as sir...! (When I was a soldier, I used to address female instructors as madam or their rank). By the way, the main villain is a white elder man. Diversity doesn't bother me (I like both new Spider-Men games), but the characters are all unbelievable in their behavior and unlikeable. There's a never-ending war and they behave like they're in kindergarten. I quit after more than 6 hours. My time is too precious for that. The idea of using magic as a weapon in FPS style is new, but in all other aspects there are better alternatives. If you want a good shooter, take Gears 5, Bulletstorm... If you're looking for an RPG/ARPG, there's Baldur's Gate 3, The Witcher 3... and if you want to see white men as the enemy, then Horizon Zero Dawn is better. I rate Immortals of Avelum with 6 / 10.

Could have been a good title, but constant crashes even after hours of troubleshooting have led me to drop this all together as it has rendered the game unplayable. Due to that, I cannot recommend this even on sale.

The story and characters so far 6 hours in aren't interesting or fun. The gameplay really just feels like magic guns, and reminds me of lichdom battlemage which I played way back in 2012. Enemy AI is pretty braindead and just wasn't really enjoying it. Maybe it gets better? But unfortunately the myriad of issues I had with the game prevent me from continueing.

Random hard crashes during load screens, abysmal DLSS performance, FSR performance terrible, Frame Gen almost guaranteeing crashing during load screens, and all of a sudden my game is now locked to 3840x2160 (I have a 3440x1440) monitor and looks stretched and terrible. WHILE still running terrible to boot (9900k, 4070TI Super, 32G DDR4).
