Hello everybody! Another day, another update!

Sorry it's been a while with 'no updates' however even though no update announcements were being made, some small minor bug fixes and such changes and updates were going through in the game as some of you may have noticed. I wish to as always - thank you for all your suggestions and feedbacks. I will try my best to fix all issues that you may have.

This new update includes bug fixes, new added settings, new monster sounds, re-worked on some jumpscare triggers and small changes. Apart from that - we also again updated the 'No Jumpscare mode' to have less loud sounds by 30% down, even for the scripted jumpscares.

The triggers in the main mode have been re-worked on. That means, that some jumpscares will only appear if you hide a lot in the game. The less you hide, the less jumpscares you may encounter. The more you hide, the more you are likely to loose your sanity and get jumpscared.

IMPORTANT 1: I heard reports about the game not working correctly or having lag spikes. If this is the case - please try going in the game's SETTINGS > GRAPHICS > VERTICAL SYNC and make it to DISABLED.

IMPORTANT 2: If the game is taking too much GPU and you wish to cap FPS - we have now added it as an option. You can go to SETTINGS > GRAPHICS > VERTICAL SYNC and make it to DISABLED and then in GENERAL select the FPS LOCK to whatever you like.

IMPORTANT 3: NO JUMPSCARE Mode will contain all scripted jumpscares. No elements from the story or anything will be missing. The only thing that will be missing, will be fewer "BOO IN YOUR FACE" jumpscares to make the player use the mic more often. Apart from that, everything will be the same.

Here is a list of updated things for the new version:

• Fixed: Bug where monster was getting stuck to some objects.
  
• Fixed: Some loud sounds were decreased by over 30%.
  
• Fixed: Updated the player map, which can be found in a location.
  
• Added: New sounds have been made to the monster.
  
• Added: Recorded whole new sounds for the monster which can be heard from a distance.
  
• Added: Feature in settings to FPS CAP for less GPU-Usage.
  
• Added: FPS can now be capped at 30, 60 or 120 if needed.
  
• Added: New signs and clues to guide you.
  
• Others: Additional bug fixes were made.
  
• Others: All updates are applied both for the 2 modes.
  
• Others: Some jump-scares in the main mode were re-arranged and worked on.
  
• Others: Some more performance changes have been made.
  
• Others: Reduced the comp. file size from over 900MB to about 550MB.
  
• Others: Done some optimizations regarding the game.
  
• Others: Re-worked on the monster's footsteps and moon-walking skill.
  
• Others: Monster can randomly sprint a hallway from time to time.
  
• Others: Monster speed have been increased.
  
• Others: Fixed shadow issues on the low quality settings.
  
• Others: Shadow distance can be set in the Settings.
  
• Others: Some elements to the story were changed.
  
• Others: Some triggers will now require an additional task to be activated. We aim to try and make each play-through and each way a player take will be different, therefore some will only activate at a certain parts.
  
• Others: Fixed some grammatical errors and typos mistakes.
  
• Others: Fixed an issue where some player's starting screen was appearing black.
  
• Others: Pause menu will NOT pause the game for a cooldown time.
  
• Others: Reduce the amount of jumpscares triggers in the main game.
  
• Others: Triggers in the main mode have been re-worked on. Some jumpscares will only appear if you hide. The less you hide, the less jumpscares you may encounter. The more you hide, the more you are likely to loose your sanity - and get jumpscared.

This new update includes some bug fixes and small changes. One of the fix was the bug that when you loaded the game, the door was still being barricaded and some players were stuck. This bug has now been fixed! Sorry about that.

Apart from that - we also updated the 'No Jumpscare mode' to have less loud sounds, even for the scripted jumpscares. May I also please remind you that the No Jumpscare mode will be the same as the other, but without the randomized jumpscares - so feel free to make your preferred choice when you start the game.

This new update contains a new map object that can be found in the backrooms. This can guide you a bit, as the map will show the locations/landmarks/save rooms which you can then follow the paths that you did not explore - the map needs to be found before hand.

• Added: Added a map where the player can find, making it easier to navigate. The map will show interesting points in it such as landmarks which you have to pin point from your location. The map will NOT show your player location.

This is an update that should fix some issues related to black screen appearing at start, and also added further ability to zoom and such minor things.

• Fixed: Bug where the enemy was getting stuck on a couple of places.
  
• Fixed: Bug where a black screen was appearing at the start of the game.
  
• Fixed: Bug that had an impact on optimization related to loading models.
  
• Fixed: Some jump-scares that were being missed, so all was left were sounds only.
  
• Fixed: Some glass footstep sounds were playing, even though there was no glass.
  
• Added: Changed FOV for the camera's zoom effect and can now zoom further.
  
• Added: Breathing sound when the player gets too tired from running.
  
• Added: Made the enemy footsteps can be heard when closer (still in progress).

Hello everybody! I hope you are all doing well.

Firstly thank you very much for all your support, suggestions and feedbacks. Keep them coming!

I see a lot of people are complaining about the jump-scares and I understand, while some may enjoy them some others won't. That is why we are adding a 'temp-mode' for now that will remove some of the jump-scares in the game.

The idea behind these are triggers that will trigger depending on each player's play-through, so while some players will get them some others won't. Since this is still in early-access it is still being worked on, so unfortunately these triggers (jump-scares) are coming too early for some too. While we are working on this to balance it out - we will be adding a temp-mode with a 'No jumpscare mode' so players who don't like them will still be able to enjoy. Basically, like Trenches.

However please note that not all of them are totally removed - but decreased. Some of the scripted ones will still be there. You can now access the 'No Jumpscare mode' in the menu. This will start as a new game.

Also this update should fix some issues again related to saving/loading, item bugs, fixed some setting issues and some other bugs.

Even though this is a 'temp' thing, but we may/may not leave it there. It depends on your feedbacks :)

PLEASE NOTE: STARTING A GAME ON 'NO JUMPSCARE MODE' WILL START A NEW GAME.

Firstly, thank you very much for all your support, suggestions and feedbacks. I will try my best to fix all issues that you may have.

This is an update that should fix some issues related to saving/loading, items not appearing on the vigil/totem, spray hand gun not appearing etc.

PLEASE NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT LOAD THE GAME FROM PREVIOUS SAVE, AS ALL PREVIOUS SAVES WHERE CORRUPTED. THIS IS THE NEW VERSION WHERE YOU CAN SAVE WITHOUT PROBLEMS. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCED THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED!

Sorry, but it's been a long day trying to figure out some issues with it - hopefully it's should be fixed now without any trouble. Please be sure not to load any previous save that you done before as this may corrupt the game from the old save, instead you have to start a new game and then save normally and it should work.

The problem with the saving and loading should of been fixed. However, do not load any save data that you already have as this may corrupt the game. Instead, you will have to start a new game and then save and continue from there.

Also some more things were added, such as an option to turn off your microphone in the game.

• Added: New feature in the main menu to disable the microphone as was suggested by users.
  
• Added: You can now save the game, and continue normally to where you left off without trouble.

• Others: A script was added to help out with players that were not seeing the mouse cursor.

Hello everybody! I hope you are all doing well.

Wercome to the very first update of 'The Backrooms 1998'! I wish to tell you thank you so much for whoever purchased the game and for your support. This really means too much to me!

I do have to apologize if you did encounter some game-breaking bugs and glitches in the game. Unfortunately, I did not notice some of them until some users reported them. We have also made some small improvements based on some of your suggestions. One of the major thing that is fixed is the game-breaking bug related with the loading/saving of the game. Basically what was happening is when the game loaded, it was not calculating the objects you picked up so it ended up in a total disaster. We also added some things based on your suggestions, such as FOV to change settings and removed the video footage that played when you loaded the game.

Fun fact: Completed the game about 13 times in total today, just for testing.

PLEASE NOTE: UNFORTUNATELY, THE SAVE MAY BE LOST WITH THE NEW UPDATE, SINCE IT WAS MOSTLY FOCUSED ON THE GAME-BREAKING BUG OF SAVING AND LOADING. IT'S BEST YOU DO NOT LOAD A GAME AND START A NEW ONE, OTHERWISE IT MAY TRIGGER ERRORS. IT'S ADVISED TO START A NEW GAME INSTEAD. SORRY!
