All that is noted here is purely my personal opinion. I may not be the best player around, but this is likely the experience an average player MAY get when they are just simply trying to enjoy the game.

First of all, since this game is F2P, it seems inviting to friends of ARPGs. So I thought, "well, could be nice, but what's the catch?". The game is fine and enjoyable until lvl 90, letting players experiment with builds and whatnot, but as soon as that 9 after 8 turns to 0.... hell happens.

Suddenly every single enemy, from simple trash mobs to bosses gets more AoE skills, and many of them tend to deal quite a lot of damage, not to mention random AoE effects appearing in the Netherealm stages. The issue here is, that, alone each of them is manageable, but when you get 20 trash mobs +2-3 elites spamming all those skills, especially on events like Aeterna, it becomes seriously hard to impossible to dodge/absorb/overheal them all, while at the same time you are trying to deal insane amounts of damage they need to die (elites+ mostly).

This brings us to the 2nd issue I faced. While I apppreciate a challenge, the -XP on death seems like a bad idea for me 9/10 times. In some games the reason may be that, enemies take a long time to respawn, on other games, the XP rate is very low. while in Torchlight there is no penalty for dying until lvl 80, between lvl 80 and 90 the penalty is 5%. This is manageable due to the fact that the enemies give enough XP to overcome 2-3 deaths one may experience. After lvl 90, the penalty gets DOUBLED. The issue here, is that enemies get exponentially strong, and if one adds this to the 1st issue described above..... well you get the picture. Resistances and shields (at least for mage type chars, got 60% on all 4 resistances, which is the cap for lvl 96) seem to do nearly nothing as most strong enemies one-shot you most of the time. The only way visible to overcome it is......... Revival Tokens! And of course they are consumed by 2, 4 or 6 depending on your level. Revival tokens can be gotten in small quantities by farming, log in bonuses and events, and of course...... by buying them in the store for real money.

The 3rd issue I consider major is the damage calculation. A usual case -> 11 cold + 200 lightning +123 fire damage on death, on the last second you took 5432 damage with no other enemies in sight and NO DoTs, do the math, 1 enemy, dealing direct damage, resulting in this. Also this happens a lot when you are walking around in an empty room and suddenly, a pack of enemies appears out of thin air, jumps and insta kills you.

Last but not least, currency used for trading is also used to upgrade your gear, which means that if one is unlucky with drops, chances are, they cannot gear up so fast, since the upgrades on the gear are also random. Random currency drop, random item drom, random upgrade values and random gacha drops for supporting spirits.

This is a good game that is being ruined by the desire for more and more and more revenue by leveraging what in my opinion is "flanking tactics", meaning that when one is faced with the above mentioned challenges, they either have to rely on skill and a good deal of luck, payment (which may not be an option for some) or quitting.
