There's no added financial incentive to hire someone else because there are no microtransactions or cosmetics. Once you buy the game, that's the only 10$ the game gets from you, and he's already sold it to a solid 70% of anyone who's going to buy it (more or less depending on how far into the future you look) adding more to the game would be nice, but it's not going to attract a massive surge of new buyers.
The community itself is obnoxiously toxic when it comes to anything he adds to the game because very few understand this game isn't MEANT to be fair. You're meant to die in increasingly unfair ways.
Meanwhile a new project can potentially be just as successful and actually make him more money and maybe even procure an audience that's less toxic.

At this point, something extravagant, even bordering liminal places, or taking inspiration from very specific and bizarre locations might be helpful with new additions of this kind.
