The "Mixed" rating (as of the time of writing this review) is very undeserved. This is a very charming life sim! Do NOT expect the level of polish and the amount of content offered by the likes of The Sims or InZOI, but if you go into it with an open mind and you like the thought of losing yourself in a cute world and having some lighthearted fun, you will have a blast with this game. There is heaps to do as is and the developers are still adding content and are committed to fixing bugs. I highly recommend it!

This is such a weird review for me. Because as this game is right now, I'm not actually sure I would recommend To Pixelia to anyone. And yet here I am, playing it constantly whenever I get the chance because though it's janky in its current state, it fills a niche that I have always wanted to play—so I'm leaving a positive review because it truly is how I feel about it! It's no secret that people are looking for Sims alternatives these days, and while this isn't The Sims, it also provides freedom in a way I think the Sims 4 absolutely does not.

This game is so charming. The world is lovely (and HUGE!), and all of the different shops and jobs are neat. I love running around as a little guy, developing a roster of people I'm flirting with, working my little waiter job, etc. Home decoration is great and I really hope we might get even more to decorate with later on. Though you can get the hang of it pretty quickly, there's also a degree of real challenge to this that again, The Sims 4 just doesn't provide. You have to work for relationships. You have to work A LOT to buy things and make money. And while I could see that being tedious for some people, I really enjoy the grind. Plus, you can change the progression of skills in the settings if the grind isn't for you!

A couple of suggestions I'd have for the game dev, who seems to be paying close attention post-launch:

1.) I do think it would be good to get someone to help out with dialogue (for English specifically, I can't speak for other languages). Some of it is a little difficult to follow. To be clear, I do not fault this dev for English not being his first language at all! And honestly if hiring an editor isn't possible, this is very easy to overlook in my opinion.
2.) The majority of the game is gorgeous, but every so often you get odd "mixel" sprites here and there that don't look as good. Again, this is graphics-based and easy to overlook considering the solid gameplay.
3.) I would personally love to see more social interactions when speaking to/calling other Pixelians. It's fine as is, but it could be extra fun with more.
4.) Bug-squashing. I will admit, this game 100% should have been in early access before it was released, and I'm not entirely sure why this wasn't the case. Either way, it's done now, so getting on bugs as fast as possible is for the best in my opinion. (And to give the dev credit this seems to be happening actively!)

To address the crashing, I haven't had any crashes at all, but I will update my review if that changes. I did have one game-breaking bug where I was hired to clean someone's apartment and was taken to play drums instead. While funny, I wasn't able to complete the quest. This was the only big bug I have encountered however.

Overall, if you know what you're getting (which is a wee bit unpolished but clearly well-loved), you'll have a blast. If you're looking for an objectively complete and ready-to-go game, this won't be for you. I, personally, will be spending the rest of my weekend on this game.

So overall I would recommend this game, however it does feel like it would have benefited from an Early Access period to work out the bugs before it debuted.

The pros:
+ The world is immersive, it feels like a really city where there's hustle and bustle, with a lot of people, jobs, businesses, etc. For those who want a more "relaxing" sim experience there's also a suburbian farming area you can travel to where life is slower paced. You can rent apartments, or buy if you save up enough money, just like in a real city.
+ The different careers being active is a lot of fun! I do wish the task changed or were harder as you moved up and earned more, though I understand there would be people who didn't like that or thought it was stressful.
+ There's a lot of little activities you can do, such as reading, writing, guitar, piano, coding, social skills, humor, etc. You also gain unique mini-games and sub-activities for each as you level up.
+ You can drive, you can even get licenses to do so.
+ The TV has different channels with different programs and you can even pay for cable to get more options.
+ There are a ton of NPCs in the world.

The cons:
+ The dream sometimes feels like a confine more than a goal. You're given a bunch of tasks and, in my opinion, often too short of a time limit. This leads to it feeling like you're stuck in a pattern of sleeping, getting your needs up, grinding to finish the pop up tasks, then falling asleep. And the quests that lead to your dream completion can be kind of shallow, at least if you want to be an artist which is what I chose.
+ Fun is too hard to come by. Watching TV isn't fun, painting isn't fun, writing isn't fun, playing the keyboard isn't fun, reading isn't fun. Coding isn't fun kind of makes sense, tbh, but the rest seems insane. Why isn't anything fun? The only two things I've found that are actually fun are dancing and arcade games. One can be done free in the world, one costs almost nothing, but it's a pain to have to leave your house if you don't have a stereo but do have a TV and a ton of books.
+ NPCs are very bland. Interacting with them and building relationships takes forever, and really you only learn their dreams and favorite foods, not much else.
+ There are a lot of bugs. For instance, quitting after saving doesn't bring me back to my desktop but to the game home screen which takes forever to load and then I have to quit again. Also the newspaper quests are bugged, the school is sometimes bugged, etc.
+ There need to be clearer how-tos in the game. It took me forever to realize you needed a study desk to finish writing and to actually be able to find a payphone to finish a quest. There's a lot to do, but much of it is confusing.
+ The amount of money the library costs is kind of crazy for the amount of time you get in it. Same goes for the internet cafe. A weekly pass might be useful.
