fun game very nostalgia

Probably the best Remaster/Remake ever made, AoEIII:DE also is top tier, but AoM is just more solid & bombastic gameplay.

I miss the original simpler/more efficient main menu, but it's still really good artistry accross the screen, models are so heavenly detailed & armour upgrades were improved to make more sense & be visually detectable.
It really is "The game as you remembered, not as it were."

The campaign plays amazingly smooth, once again the visuals greatly improve the immersion & just brings that "1990's Disney mythological Adventure" to life like no other game does.
Mod support is great, so what's to wish for? Nothing, we get Arena of the Gods, new narrative mini-missions in Nordic Settings - perfection. More!!

A Celtic & Meso-American/North-American pantheon & mystical campaign cannot come soon enough and that would be the best Age game ever for me, and the best RTS next to Company of Heroes! Worth a lifetime, doesn't need anything else xD

Faithful remake of the old version.

Good game

The only reason I bought this game was to experience the custom scenarios of old. Unfortunately, the modding system is broken and as a result, there are almost no multiplayer games for custom scenarios. Whether it's requiring everyone to have the mod in order for the game to show up in the list, or for the map file itself to not even appear in your files, it's just broken.

The devs have no intention of fixing this.

UI not starting has been broken for 3 weeks and there has been no acknowledgement or update to correct it.

Not recommending because it's literally unplayable.

If you love the og age of mythology, you're gonna like this one, but i'll be honest with you all, this looks decent but the entire game feels buggy af, it has plenty of performance issues, like clicking on making new units too fast can tank your fps to like 10, or clicking somewhere where you got an app in the background (yeah no real fullscreen), the ai is terrible, is either stupidly bad to not attack you for the entire session, or obliterate you in no time.

i'm not refunding this, because i believe they can do better, and btw, 5 companies worked on this!??! are you serious??? you can clearly see the portraits were made with AI

Now it might be the nostalgia talking and I'm incredibly biased but Age of Mythology: Retold might be the greatest RTS game ever made.

Finally, after years of waiting and wondering the best entry in the age of empires series gets a remake, and a fantastic one at that, the units look fantastic and the buildings and environments are incredible. It's been an absolute pleasure replaying this game and it's exactly how I remember it from a kid.

So what do we get? Well we have 3 campaigns with lots of different difficulties, skirmish mode, a new mode called arena which isn't something I'm interested in and varies multiplayer options. We have a lot of options and plenty of things to keep you busy, as a predominantly single player I'm finding plenty to do and that's before I've even started jumping into skirmish mode, map making and mods.

So in case you're unfamiliar age of mythology is an RTS game, you build a base, gather resources and create an army whilst also building temples and wonders to appease your chosen gods. The twist with AoM is that you can utilise various mythological creatures and gods with each faction having distinct play styles and god powers. You have 4 factions (soon to be 5 with the Chinese.) Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlanteans with the Greek being the most straightforward in terms of gameplay. Sticking with the Greeks you use villagers to gather resources which you then use to progress to the next era, each era bringing new units, buildings and gods which grant you powerful boons. Once you're at the highest possible era you can build powerful titans and rain death on your enemies godzilla style and it's oh so much fun.

Performance is outstanding and this game even has controller support! Finally! I've enjoyed playing this on my steamdeck abd I really wish all of the AoE games had controller support.

I haven't been this happy playing an RTS since command & conquer got a remaster and I'm so happy to be able to play what I think is the best version of age of mythology, it's a great time to be an age of empires fan, unless you like 3.
