ending left me staring at the screen for five minutes before I cried like a ♥♥♥♥♥

the actual eroge part sucks ass and detracts from the game and the gameplay is mid but the story and characters are actually peak

so it’s probably good

unironically probably my favorite jrpg just from the writing of the protag and the story in general

if you want to play the game i suggest patching it and turning h scenes off for the best experience

I was honestly blown away by this game. It's a real gem in the RPG Maker field, probably my favorite I've played to date. The art and music are great. Combat, while not pushing the boat out really at all, is extremely well balanced. You should never be in a place where exp or money are a serious roadblock. The story is like pretty good but not exceptional overall, but where Demons Roots really shines is in its character writing. Almost everyone has a really compelling personal story with overarching themes that fit a part of the whole, but I don't really want to spoil any of it here (although I will say that my favorites are Polca, Lily, and Sarasa). The translation is quite good, but you do need the external patch to make everything work smoothly.

I highly recommend Demons Roots as long as you can look past the 18+ content which is only sometimes comically gratuitous. I'm sure the game is great with the PG-13 setting, but as slavery is a highly central aspect to the story, you can probably imagine how the story would utilize certain methods of brutality and abuse to accelerate its themes. Not immediately repulsed? Great. Buy it.
