Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades

Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades

The more things change, the more they stay the same
- Great game, has a lot of potential. I can't wait for the main game to arrive and play the campaigns. As of now it is hinted to have three. I hope each faction gets to have their own campaign in the future.

- Crusader, Mongol, Russian, Arab and Byzantine factions have their own distinct looks, but the could use a little more change in appearance. Some building skins were taken from the previous game.

- Have each faction have a different play style. The Crusader units have the ability to raise their shields to minimize ranged damage at the expense of movement speed, which is a nice touch. For the Mongol faction I was looking forward to a horse mounted focus but I ended up relying on foot soldiers to do the fighting. At face value, all units play the same, there is less variety. I remember in the original Ancient Wars: Sparta, the Spartan faction was more armored and have better attack than the Egyptian faction, but the Egyptians are faster on their feet. This game can use something like that.

- The Russian faction has good mechanics, focusing on wood production and having the ability to fortify their own city by building wooden palisades around it.

- Some bug when enemy units mount a horse from the another faction. They appear to be standing erect on the horse, as if standing on land. This needs some fixing.

- Some metal resources are not visible on the main screen. An example will be on the Rivers map where the metal resource on the bottom right base is not shown. It would help a lot if they can be easily seen and have indicators on the mini map just like it does with gold mines.

- There were also times that I was hearing a warning about low food. It would help to have a resource counter for that just like for gold and wood.
