A colourful, boombastic and heavily queer musical that is a breath of fresh air in a gaming world somehow stale of the same tropes. It follows the trend of these years where ancient gods are revisited
as semi-normal people of today, and it does it in a delicate and rewarding way, conscious of its charisma and deliberate in its passion. It's also a fantastically looking visual novel and characters' art is just so good. Songs are nice, maybe not at the level of some famous musical but it's absolutely enjoyable. Oh, and there's a cover of "I put a spell on you" <3 And Freddie! i seriously need a friend like her irl.
This game is a great experience and unless you wholeheartedly hate musicals you should give it a try!

Ah yes, American Gods: The Musical: The Game.

This game can be used as a torture device method (quite literally) on them Call of Duty playing bros by forcing them to play this.

This appeals to a very particular group of people. It's me. I'm people.

It gave off Wicked + Divine vibes and I loved that.

It makes me miss old classic Disney animated movies the more I play it.

I was advertised meaningful choices and music. I got that. I've been very happy. Absolutely incredible game with great music, art style and acting! It really does feel like you’re playing through a musical! Also filled with Hadestown and Rent vibes. Playing Stray Gods was honestly a breath of fresh air—delightful, immersive, and tinged with emotional complexity.

I love musicals. I absolutely adore them. This game is a godsend. The music is wonderful, the singers are very good, the lyrics are charming, bravo! This is probably as well as a game like this can work. The balance between game and song has its issues, but more game would make the songs unworkable and more song would just make this a CYOA singalong. The arbritrary constraints of clicky mystery games and the arbitrary constraints of musicals support each other better than expected. The characters are what make this game so strong, they feel nuanced and relatable. The art style is very charming and the dialogue outside of the musical numbers is pretty well written too.

You can take this with a pinch of salt since I'm biased but I genuinely think that the music was very well done. Not only that but depending on your choices in the song, the music can change drastically. I found that incredible. It's a really interesting concept, trying to take the dialogue option wheel and apply it to music (and not simply changing the lyrics but actively adjusting keys, instrumentation, and antagonist responses, tone, and melody), and the actors they did get are pretty dang good at their jobs. One of the reasons I played so many times aside from the romances was to see different iterations of the songs. I was pretty blown away by it all, but I was a choir and theater kid, so this was basically made for me.

The animation is unique, it's limited but effective. I loved the style for the characters and the sets and especially the song settings. I found them to be particularly mesmerizing. The Beauty and the Beast homage in the Hecate/Asterion song was very pretty. Pan's tree is very pretty. Athena's Greek setting is amazing and daunting in the best ways. The characters are beautiful, wonderful, very hot. No seriously. Every time I played, I was so sad that I couldn't be poly because I'd be tempted by the ones I'm not romancing. They sizzling. I'm seriously tempted to cosplay more than one of them.

Honestly, I’m very surprised and happy to see this has overall good reviews here on Steam. Was kind of expecting a slant in the other direction because I would think gamers and musicals go together like water and oil. Which is really funny to think about since modern story-based games are basically a repackaging of the same types of tragic/dramatic stories that opera has been telling for centuries.

It's fun, and a really enjoyable experience. The art is nice, the songs are well written and there's plenty of Greek mythology stuff to make any nerd happy. It was pretty quick all things considered! If you like visual novels, musicals, murder mysteries, Greek mythology all pretty good reasons to play the game. The way it played felt familiar after playing many visual novels but the same QuickTime directing of musical numbers was definitely different!

Overall, Stray Gods was an incredibly rewarding experience that felt tailored to my decisions. It had its messy parts, but that’s what made it feel so grounded. No neat little bow on the end, just a complex story where choices actually mattered. If you're looking for a game where the journey is as bittersweet as it is meaningful, and you’re okay with some endings not being "perfect" this is absolutely for you.

As an extreme greek Mythology enthusiast was really put off by this game at first. There were some changes that did not make sense, and still don't. The idea of chorus sounded cool, but Athena leading it makes no sense, since Apollo was the god of arts and music. It may just be that I misunderstood something.

Still, it was somewhat explained later on, and I am glad for that, that some changes were to do with world building, such as character design.

I found myself enjoying that game, more than I thought, and while I'm sure I probably won't replay it- that's just mt greek mythology nerdiness, I still would recommend it for people that are more casual on that topic and looking foe something to pass their time.

The art and music was great, and story coherent.

If I were to rate it personally it would be 5/10, but once again, I'm biased due to my passion for greek mythology,
But if the innacuracy was out of the rating, it'll probably be a solid
8/10
