A very fun Ace Attorney-like. A bit flawed, but the last case was especially good. Don't skip to it though, it depends on all the others.

It's impossible not to make the comparison to the original Ace Attorney games, and I think anyone who enjoys those for the mystery-solving elements would enjoy Paper Perjury.

However, if your biggest draw to the AA series and world are the ridiculous characters, you might not get quite as much enjoyment. PP has characters with some quirks but in comparison are a lot more down-to-earth and some are frankly fairly forgettable. Personally I liked a few a lot but had a hard time remembering names by Case 5 when there was a large cast with a lot of facts to keep straight.

In a lot of ways it improves on the AA gameplay formula as well: no penalty system at all, leaving it entirely a matter of personal pride how well/poorly you do (which I personally believe this type of game should do), outright striking out things you have tried and did not work, and most importantly, providing reasons why possible contradictions might not work when you're close but not quite exact with what the narrative is looking for at that point.

The writing is overall quite good and I give props to the scenario writer for making a realistic alternate modern world that is intriguing but familiar enough to not feel lost in. The story across the 5 cases is interesting and the connections keep you going, but if you're looking for some sort of "big payoff" like you get in Shu Takumi games, you may be disappointed.

Overall, I give it a 8/10, I enjoyed it a lot and would absolutely love to see the same people make a sequel or another game with the experience this one gave them. I think everyone involved could only get better and better and I'd love to see more from them.

Great pixelart and animations. Funny writing (leaning towards silly). Haven't spotted a single typo. Ok story overall. Based. Just a bit confused about the difference between brake pads and a brake pedal.
