I got this on sale for the spring sale for $3, do yourself a favor & just play early WWE games. Yukes did so much better compared to this. Controls are clunky, AI can be super cheap & the story mode is bare minimum. Unless you want an offline completion you can finish in a day just play any other wrestling game instead.

I finally decided to buy the game on sale, regret buying the "complete" version with all the DLCs because had I actually just dove right into gameplay, I would have quickly found that this game is not fun to play. It's got brief moments of fun when the controls aren't terrible, when things actually make sense.

Something that fundamentally is terrible is running the ropes, and I feel like that's inexcusable in ANY wrestling game. How do you mess up something so foundational to what wrestling is. So it's B or O to run depending on your controller right? OK, awkward button to use for running when the rest of the face buttons are used for punch, kick, and grapple, but whatever. So if you HOLD the run button and run at the ropes, you'll run to the apron of the ring.... why??? You have to just tap Run to bounce off the ropes, but when you do, you'll just stand there like a moron rather than actually, you know, keep running forward...??? The controls are so awkward and bad. The only reason I spent as much time in this game as I did was editing the playlist to not hear the same 3 annoying rap songs in a row over and over and over again, and customizing movesets and attires for a CAW.

The AI varies from completely inept to impossibly difficult, all on the same difficulty level. Matches will not feel satisfying at all because they're over within 2 minutes half the time. The timing for reversals is not intuitive and sometimes the AI will just completely steamroll you because you can't get out of their endless chain of moves, while reversing all of yours perfectly.

I wanted to believe that it was just me being bad at the game, which is probably true, but when a game at its core does not feel good or intuitive to play, I don't think I care to learn it. I was really astounded that Yukes, the team that brought us the legendary Smackdown vs Raw games years ago, dropped the ball so hard on this game. This honestly feels more like a tech demo than an actual game you spend retail price money on.

I would be down to play a more arcade style wrestling game, but even Wrestling Empire feels infinitely better to play than this game, and it's made by ONE GUY. It's a shame that this game is so astoundingly mediocre because there's essentially no competition for WWE 2k games.
