1.0 is live!

After 2.5 years in Early Access, 6 years of total dev time, Plan B: Terraform has finally reached version 1.0!

First of all, a huge thank you to our Early Access supporters. Your help during this period was invaluable. The game could not have become what it is today without your feedback, suggestions, and discussions. And a huge thanks to Crowdin contributors for helping with localization!

Most of the major changes were introduced in previous updates (so they could be tested and balanced with the help of our Early Access players – thank you so much!). But for this special milestone, we’ve kept a few surprises for today’s release:

Controllable Animals: once oxygen is high enough, animals are released into the wild. You can now take direct control of them – including soaring as an eagle to admire your planet from a whole new perspective (with a free camera around the animal).
Creative Mode: new tools let you freely reshape your planet – add or remove water, mountains, minerals, and more. Options are also available for unlimited resources, fewer constraints, and total creative freedom. Access it anytime from the pause menu.
6 new music tracks, for a total of 1h40 of immersive atmosphere in your terraformed worlds.

Also, the sound design has been completely overhauled – the improvement is noticeable!

I would also like to thank again all the players of my previous game, Dig or Die, as it is the success of that game that made Plan B: Terraform possible.

While I developed Dig or Die alone, Plan B was made by a (small) team. So, as a conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank my partners who were with me through most of the development: Marion Santoni (who did all the art!) and Romain Minguet (a fellow programmer always motivated — without him we would never have had multi-selection and many other features!).

Thanks also to Camille Gineste for her incredible soundtrack, and to Léo Caillac for his last-minute heroic save on the sound design. And finally, Aurélien Marck and Guillaume Pivot for their help during the early steps of the game.

Plan B - v0.9.6: Sound Design, Localisation!

It wasn’t planned, but here it is: one last update before the 1.0 release next Friday (August 29th)!

Léo [caillacleo.wixsite.com]helped us redesign all the game’s sounds (or rather, create them, since there were barely any before!).

Almost all sentences are now fully translated into every supported language (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Czech, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian). If you spot any mistakes, feel free to suggest corrections directly on Crowdin[crowdin.com].

And if you run into any bugs, please let us know on Discord or the Steam forum, it would help us a lot!

Plan B - v0.9.5: new Terrain Tool!

0.9.5, the last update before 1.0, is live! The biggest change is the brand-new Terrain Tool, which replaces the four old tools with a single, much more powerful and versatile version.

This update also includes a lot of behind-the-scenes code changes to prepare for the 1.0 bonus features (like Creative Mode and animals), though those aren’t active yet.

We’ll continue pushing updates until the 1.0 release on August 29th, but likely without additional news posts. These updates will mostly include more of the upcoming features (still deactivated), small fixes, localization improvements, etc.

New unique Terrain Tool. Multiple parameters: draw mode (free, line, multi-line), terrain effect (flatten, ramp, smooth), altitude offset, brush radius, border radius.
Replaces the dynamite, pile of dirt (both still consumed by new tool), level and smooth tools (both converted into dynamite).

Plan B: Terraform is participating in the Steam Automation Fest! And for the occasion, we are excited to announce that the game will be released in version 1.0 on August 29th!

The game is now almost complete! Those two last years of updates have completely transformed it: quality-of-life improvements like copy-paste, better planet simulation with vast oceans and clouds, new levels, a story, and plenty of new content like container ships, research centers, and a space elevator.

And we still have a few surprises for v1.0: a creative mode (want to create a water world? Easy!), new music tracks, and the addition of various animals to bring life to your terraformed planet.
And why not take control of an eagle to fly over your world and admire it from a new perspective?

Plan B - v0.9.4: grass everywhere, improved transports!

Update 0.9.4 is here! This update brings two major improvements that will enhance both gameplay and visuals.

Transport systems have been overhauled — drones and vehicles are now much more efficient. Drones waste less time and prioritize unloading vehicles. Trucks have been significantly improved to remain useful longer.

Going green! Grass now spreads naturally from trees, covering large areas — including under roads, rails, and factories — giving your cities a more organic look. It will keep spreading as long as the soil retains enough humidity and the temperature is favorable. In drier or colder regions, it takes on a more yellowish hue. Trees have also been rebalanced, and cities will no longer require oxygen once there’s enough of it in the atmosphere!

This update also includes a variety of other tweaks and improvements — check out the full list below!

Major improvements:

Major rework of transports and drones behavior, to move containers faster and smarter. Trucks buffed a lot (cf. Balance changes).
Add grass and rebalance other plants (cf. Balance changes). Grass automatically spread (including below rails, roads and factories) when planting trees, and gives a bit of oxygen (20% of a forest hexagon)

Improvements:

Drones take off to unload stacks earlier, load and unload faster, give priority to transports, search for new task earlier, optimize performances
Drones movement smoothed, move at the exact position (no more drones & containers teleports).
Show actual vehicles stats (number of containers transported per year)
Trees replace more easily other types of trees, if they are better suited for the local conditions
Reduced O2 city need when enough of it
Add a history of camera positions (with mouse buttons 4/5)

Depots MK3 drones move 2 containers at once.
Trucks number of containers 1 => 2, speed 1 => 2
Trains speed 2 => 3, acceleration 0.3 => 0.16
Ship: speed 0.8 => 1.5, unlock level 20 => 19
Trains wait to be fully unloaded
Do not reroute vehicles if their path is flooded
Tropical trees give +50% oxygen
Palm trees are now the only trees growing on beaches
Cacti grow on no-water areas, are more distant to each others, give less oxygen (same quantity as visible cacti number)
Modify tree movements so they are more synchronised with the wind direction

The most suggested feature is here: select multiple unit with a selection box and copy-paste them anywhere with a Ctrl+C!
You can also undo and redo your previous action with (Shift+)Ctrl+Z.

Also, you now have ice on mountains tops and on forest grounds near poles.

Remark: For the selection, there might be some position offset when you copy or paste over pentagon/heptagons, but those are highlighted so you'll see if this is the case.

Here is more than 50 improvements for the game!
Nothing game-breaking, but we did a complete review and sorting of all the remaining tasks for the game, and we were able to complete a lot of old ones that had been reported/suggested a very long time ago! And now we know exactly what we have to do up to the v1.0 release (still planned for Q3 of this year).

And we are currently working on a very interesting and long awaited feature... So don't hesitate to join the discord and the Beta branch, to follow the development and help us by giving feedback on the new features!

Charts: show temperature for liquid water and oxygen for farms
In zoomed out view, show vehicles, buildings and stops with the color of their containers. Vehicles as oriented rectangles.

Here is a small update, to fix some urgent issues from v0.9.0. We also optimised performances of large storage areas, and rebalanced the farms so you need 2x less food processing plants and harvest to transport, while still required as much land area.

Drones perfs improved (especially in pause and for large storage areas).
Localisation updated from Crowdin (thank you all for your help!)

Balance:

Quality Food requires only 1 Harvest, but farms produce and consume 2x less (same farm area, but 2x less food processing plants and 2x less harvest to transport).

Show 1 level unlocked item in advance
Prevent pile of dirt peaks. Add shift to make a nice hill

Plan B - v0.9 major update

v0.9 is the biggest update of the game, with new levels, new items, new mechanics, a story and a completely reworked UI!

The new content is pretty much everywhere, especially in the mid and late game. But above all, it completes the game as a whole, just as it was originally conceived. And the new content adds a link and coherence between the different elements: trees produce the oxygen that farms need, research centers lead to the expansion of secondary cities and link them together, and so on.

A few important things to note:

- SAVE RESET: old saved games are not compatible with this new version. To continue playing old games, activate the branch "v0.8.4" (in the Steam properties of the game). I'm sorry for that, we didn't have choice, too many breaking changes in this update. But it's the only time it will happen, you'll be able to continue playing with v0.9 after v1.0 release.

- MOD ERRORS: if the game cannot load, please check if you have some mods (steamworks or bepinex) as most of them are not yet compatible with v0.9

- LOCALISATION / CROWDIN : if you wish to help translate a few sentences, you are most welcome! Here is the Crowdin page: https://crowdin.com/project/plan-b-terraform/invite/public

There will be a 20% discount during the Spring Sale, before the price is increased from $14 to $16 (the final price for the v1.0 release). It was the same with v0.7 and v0.8: the idea is that you pay only for what is already done, rather than for promises.

We will now be working on a number of small features, but above all on polishing and balancing. Then we will work on some small bonus for 1.0 (scheduled for release in Q3 of this year), like a nice creative mode.
