If you got 1st title during the normal story mode, you’ve probably got a couple boss-types, any of those should be fine
I enjoy a nice complement of Gargoyle-types myself, and always liked the best dragonshroom (big golden Kingshroom, can only be acquired from final boss battle though)
And of course the two big monsters end of CaveOfTrials are worth snagging (Hekatoncheir & the LV500+ ZombieKing)
For regular monsters, end of game? the mermaids have that useful 2-panel attack range, whales have a nice big HP/ATK/DEF platter - bears are OK to start, but they get throttled by magic, and that will be a problem by final chapter DLP story mode
If you want a relative amount of challenge from DLP story, I’d say just recruit a couple Krackens from normal story mode Angel Gate, maybe a couple of the strongest mermaid types from CaveOfTrials 2
I also forgot, one of my other favourite boss-type complements is the 3/4 “dark warrior” types that it’s possible to recruit
- the regular drab brown
- the blue one you can get in DPL story mode
- the golden “best” one that you can only get from normal story mode final battle
Just running around w three hooded cape guys is fun
