It was pretty much confirmed once the Ultimate Collection got released, so no surprise there.

IDK what the "mantra" was, but the idea was to support the game, so it keeps making money. It clearly did't make enough to justify further development.

The idea was that they were listening to us (or some content creators that supposedly were giving feedback form the community to them), in order to make the series better. Was it for real? Was it a marketing trick? We'll never know, since whoever picks up the franchise (Codemasters?) will probably won't care.

They did not care about The feedback none of IT was implemented

Example idea and their response to It:
Make Police cars drivible in public
Reponse: we would like to implement That but we cant in unbound.
Exact same response to every idea/feedback From community

That might've been the motivation for Criterion and a sales pitch to EA to convince them to give the game a shot, and they were clearly collecting feedback from the community, so I doubt that was all just a lie. However, EA probably doesn't care about any of that, all they care about is the bottom line, which was clearly lacking.
What happens to NFS from now on is anyone's guess. I'd say we'll get a couple of easy remasters, before a new game is even announced.

Yeah, well, "can't do that" and "don't care about your suggestions" are clearly not the same thing. Too bad the difference is lost on you.

What's there to remaster, though? I believe they cannot do the Black Box era games, so... MW2012? Rivals? The Run? (That would be cool though). Last time we had a remaster to fill the gap (HP2010), Criterion had already been appointed in charge of NFS and it was fitting to do a remaster of one of their games. Right now, everything is in limbo, we don't know who will be in charge of the next game (if there's one). Criterion? Codmasters? Maybe a new studio?

I imagine, the easiest would be MW2012 and Rivals, Black Box era is out of the question, because those will never be quick, easy or cheap. People who think a MW 2005 remaster will sell millions and easily recoupe all the production and licensing costs are plain wrong, since they have no idea how much it would actually cost. It doesn't have to be an EA studio, either, they can just outsource it, like other publishers do.
