The Hammer editor that comes with SFM does not work
I have a little project I'm trying to do, all I want to do is have a greenscreen "studio" that I can use in SFM, have the chacters say and do their stuff, and then chroma-key it ontop of a video.

So anyway I downloaded the greenscreen panels from somewhere, got the dialouge recorded, then went into the hammer editor to make a basic greenscreen room, and I'm greeted with this lovely error: "FATAL ERROR, missing material 'editor/flatignorez' Go to Tools | Options | Game configurations and verify that your game directory is correct" what do I need to do to fix this? I went into the game configurations thing but I'm clueless as to whether anything there is set up right.

Also, how do I change the type of veiw the 3D camera has, you know so I can actually see what I've made, even if I make just a simple box, I can't see it in the 3D veiw, at all, no matter whether I select "3D Texrued Polygons", "3D Ray-Traced Preveiw", or even just "Wireframe", I still see nothing, is this becuae of the error or am I doing something wrong?

Also I don't like the colour sceme that they've used for the 2D veiws, is there anyway to change the grid colour on the 2D veiws from a bright pink to the more pleasing grey and blue like the Hammer editor that comes with Portal 2 has?

The SFM Hammer needs to be run by actually going to the SFM\Game\bin folder then right click on the Hammer.exe file. Select run as administrator. It does not function properly if you try to run it from a shortcut.

No, tried that, I still get the same result.

oh, have you reset your game configurations using the SFM sdk tool?

I don't think so, I don't even know how to do that.

That may be your problem with the SFM Hammer then. Launch SFM, instead of going straight to the Movie Maker launch the SDK, there Click Reset Game Configurations and say OK to the next 2 prompts ( http://imgur.com/bQFMItN ). Close SFM and Steam then relaunch Steam. Go to the SFM/Game/Bin folder, right click on Hammer.exe and select launch as an administrator and try it again.

Many thanks, I tried what you just suggested and it works now!

Now if you want to use a different flavour of hammer (ie the TF2 or L4D version), you'll have to reset the game configs again based on the flavour you want to use using the SDK tools for that game.

I have this same problem, but I don't know how to follow these instructions? I'm new to SFM. What's the Movie Maker and how do I launch SFM's SDK?

If you have the Game Configs set to use SFM and you want to launch the SFM Hammer, you have to go to the sourcefilmaker\game\bin folder and launch it manually from there.

What do you mean by "game configs"? I tried going on Source SDK, and on the bottom where it says "current game", the current game is Team Fortress 2, and there is no option to set it to Source Filmmaker. I tried setting it to different engine versions as well, but that only gave me the option to set the current game to Half Life 2 Episode 2.
And whenever I tried to open and use SFM's Hammer, I did launch it from the bin folder every time.

SFM Hammer requires system configurations to set to SFM folders in order for SFM Hammer to work

TF2 Hammer requires system configurations to set to TF2 folders in order for TF2 Hammer to work

Same goes for all other versions of hammer, to use them system configuration have to be pointed to the game files for the particular game and version of hammer being used.

To set up for SFM, you open the SFM SDK and reset game configurations. However, after doing that, SFM Hammer has to be launched manually from the Sourcefilmmaker\game\bin folder by double clicking the hammer.exe there. Not from a shortcut or the SDK (this is a bug).

But where is this SFM SDK? I can't find it anywhere. Do I have to download it separately from Source Filmmaker?

Nevermind, I did a google search and found out how to launch the SDK. Although Hammer runs with no problem when I launch it from the SDK for some reason.

It will launch from the SDK, however, if your adding HDR, it may not save properly.

This was a bug discovered a long time ago and the fix was to launch from the bin folder manually.

I don't really know what I did but I went to the folder tf / materials / editor and created a text and named it flatignorez.vmt (the file) and then I went in and I got another error I don't remember what the name was but I put the The name of that error was something like flagnocull or something like that and I did the same thing again, but with the name of that error, then I entered once more and I got another error. I repeated the process and in that attempt I did not have any more problems.
