Game crashes on startup (Mods)
Answer:

TLDR: Too many mods installed

So after waaaay too much troubleshooting for how simple the issue was, I've identified the problem. due to how finicky the game is (which I'll get into in a second) it's hard to diagnose with %100 certainty, but with a certain level of confidence I can say that the issue was likely too many .suit files being installed.

Now what made this so hard to figure out is that a save file will remember how many .suit files, even if they are uninstalled. I don't know why this is but it makes uninstalling mods mid-playthrough practically useless, so my recommendation is to settle on a mod load prior to starting any playthorughs and sticking with it for the whole run.

Another big barrier was that people recommend using a %100 save to help crashing issues. Again not sure how that works as I was previously playing fine on a fresh save. But regardless I decided to try this file to help out:

Do not use that file. I'm not sure what the issue is, perhaps the creator had mods installed or it? Regardless continuous crashes. The minute I deceided to replace it with a different one everything works fine. Try using this file if you need a %100 save:

Game loads and plays perfectly fine without mods but when I try to install mine with overstrike it won't launch

I've tried multiple things to solve this issue. TOC resets, verifying files, uninstalling and re-installing the entire game, deleting my save and using a %100 complete on instead. Nothing seems to work.

The frustrating thing is that I was previously playing with over 80 mods (mostly .suit files, probably about 30-50) with no issue. Yesterday install a couple more. Boom, games screwed. My thinking is it's gotta be a certain mod causing the problem but I can't pin down which one, furthermore, mods that beforehand didn't seem to cause any problem now seem to cause issues aswell. When I did my fresh install I deleted all files relating to the game. Mod library, game files, save files and other in my documents folder, so that can't be the issue right?

Are there any mods known to be problematic? Anything I missed deleting that could potentially be the issue?

And no it's not the most recent update. I installed and launched the game for the first time after that update came out.

Please help. I am beyond frustrated. I bought the PC version specifcally to play with mods and if I can't do so this really became a huge waste of money for me

you should never expect to play with mods, they are by design unsupported.

You understand how incredibly unhelpful saying that is? Did you miss the part where I was playing the game modded without issue for a while (~17 hrs) before encountering an issue. And said issue only occurred after installing some additional mods. Clearly I can run the game with mods on my setup, just needed some help identifying where the problem point is.

Erm sorry but that's what you modders get. :mbgaan:

Anyway, actual reply. I don't know of any specific mods that cause issues but if someone else is having problems with it then there's probably comments about it in its Nexus page. Since you have so many, I'd start with any gameplay changing ones first.

There could also be an issue with the mod installer itself, try installing mods manually if that's an option and see what happens. There's also a mod community discord you can probably ask questions in.

I don't think it's the mod manager as I've tried doing a fresh installation of that too. And as far as I'm aware with SMR you have to using a mod mamager to insert them into the game files whether it's over strike or smpc tool. I have been using overstrike but I suppose I could try the other and see if that gives different results. Overstike is alot less complex so I was avoiding that option

See I started playing after the update. So for me that isn't the issue. For those where the update borked their mods I've heard of a TOC reset fixing the issue. The seems to be a few different ways to go about that but the one I'm familiar with is going in and delelting the TOC and TOC.BAK files. Verifying the files on steam to get fresh, unaltered TOC files. From there reinstall your mods.

Tho all the update seems to add is FSR 3.1 support. If you don't care about that you could try rolling back to a previous version. I've heard that helping aswell
