The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

HOW TO MAKE THIS NOT GARBAGE (and still in dosbox :D)
STEP 1, go to this website https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files and download any patch you want, i chose the 213 patch for the most patches, and added features.

STEP 2, Throw that patch EXE into the /The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall/DF/DAGGER folder

STEP 3, open DOSBOX with the "DAGGER" folder mounted as C, the "DFCD" folder mounted as D (this DFCD being mounted as D drive is important since you CANNOT PROGRESS in the install without this mounted.)

STEP 4, follow the installers instructions (in dosbox, remember that), the simple "press y to install", theres also something about a duplication file getting removed idk (this is optional) and yeah boom PATCH INSTALLED. PIXELATED TITS AND GOLD >:D

Could you explain it to me like if I was 5 years old?

And why didn't they patch the game already before uploading it on Steam?

Who knows, they have never used their own patch on it in any release of Daggerfall they have released, maybe they forgot, or maybe they lost the patch code when they lost the source code.

could you tell me which step you're having trouble with since idk if i have the skill (explanation wise) to do all of it since explaining stuff is not my skill 😅

also they probably left out the patches since it was most likely wasnt their priority, if they misspell the name as "The Elder Scolls" then they probably prioritised just getting their game onto steam

Why does Steam still use Dosbox? It's awful! Tomb Raider 1 has been here for years with Dosbox, everyone uses the mod TombATI instead.

Thank you for posting this. I'll install and see if I can watch the live action films and play without lagging.

games lagging for you too? thought it was just a me thing lol.
as well as they still use dosbox most likely because they dont have the rights to any of the source ports/mods (ex. daggerfall unity)
the only dos game on steam i can think of with a source port is Doom 1 and 2 because Bethesda or ID made Doom Unity themselves

Cool, but how can I mount directories and drives in dosbox?? I completely forgot how to use dos commands...

this should work
mount c (whatever directory has dagger)
mount d (whatever directory has dfcd)

Yep, Daggerfall was lost, but then found, once they found the source code they released it for free on their website and GoG.
BY source code, I do mean the original program that runs on dos went missing all those years ago.

Because they would have to literally remake the game to get it to run nativly on modern OSes.

I dunno, bro. Its not working
I type

MOUNT C E:\Games\steamapps\common\The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall\DF\DAGGER

and dosbox tells me such directory doesnt exist. Could you give me an example on what should I type?

Must be different on windows since i, as a linux user, did "mount c /home/fez/whateverthehell" which worked for me, may be the slashes not being forward slashes
HazakTheMad 27 Apr, 2022 @ 2:01pm
Windows uses backslashes for file directories.
