Why do the eye view spots break the game?

Whenever I try to interact with the first one by some dock, the game keeps going but nothing happens and all controls get locked up.
I shouldn't have to fiddle with resolutions or aspect ratio to fix this.

i've reported the bug, they'll probably fix it in the next patch
also, running the game in win8 compatibility mode works too and allows you to have any setting you want

Thanks for reporting!
This issue is due to some video files in 4k resolution not working as they should. As a temporary fix while we work on a patch, either set your resolution in game settings to 1920x1080 or lower, or add this to Steam launch options to force 2k video size:
-limit2kvideo
