Can you even name an rts that failed and didnt continue to have a following long after support was pulled?

What RTS has any views on twitch, what RTS has players like CoH2 3k , or AoE 4 10k or like AoE2 20k which are B tier RTS no one plays... And rest is irrelevant... No one even plays/watches RTS games anymore WTF are you talking about? I am not talking about 90 hardcore players playing Zero Hour online lol. This is exactly why RTS is not popular because everyone is shill like Stormgate release game died on arrival ended up with 300 players, because ppl that told something negative were ignored over and over.

You are delusional that it doesn't even make sense, there is not even 1 RTS games that is successful or has any playerbase and AoE doesn't count. Are you living in parallel universe or something?

There are bunch of RTS games like Iron Harvest that always die on release, i don't know WTF you are talking about RTS is dead genre....

Beyond all reason and starcraft and supreme commander and even older games like command and conquer generals Ive watched people play on twitch.

You act like anything went wrong with total annihilation which was so successful it spawned multiple spiritual successors and people still play that and their successors to this day, how is that a failure.

"All rts destined to fail" get out of here xd

Even off brand rts games see constant play like mindustry.

I do not like TotalA, I LOVE IT!! haha

Still playing when I can. Would be great to have exactly same game but with graphics and technologies .

I know, Beyond all reason is amazing and very nice successor but, idk why.... sometimes I miss that spirit that Total has, do not know how to exactly explain it.

Both are pretty nice games

I did grow up with that game

"No one watches it on Twitch"

I don't believe you, but I also cannot imagine thinking that matters.

Child. Those of us who actually have supported these brands and genres, who started on Atari when it was released, met our wives and husbands on Ultima, EQ, WoW, etc. love your enthusiasm, we just wish you had facts to back it up. Your opinion, (Which despite modern pop-psychology beliefs, everything you posted was purely your opinion and not fact in any way shape or form) isn't true, and even if it was truth the items you listed aren't the gold standard for success unless that is what the studio specifically strives for.

In 2010, one of the best known esport streamed competitive events was Starcraft tournaments. During the 2010 Blizzcon with a grand prize of $500, Genius won, asian guy who loved Protoss. BUT, despite the fact that this indeed happened, the things that make Twitch streams loads of money are action packed, fast paced games. What you said is essentially, "Pickup trucks fail as a vehicle because I've never seen one at the Indy 500...". (I know you probably are going to google it, but that's a live action IRL race using race cars. The point I was making is only an absolute idiot would assume a pickup belongs there and would consider them failures for not appearing.)

A good RTS is boring to watch unless you deeply understand the play, which gives it a small audience. Twitch streamers want LARGE audiences, so they focus on what the largest group they believe they can get to watch will want. An action packed PVP or similar game doesn't require knowledge to enjoy watching. A good RTS makes it's studio money, and continues to after it's release as it is followed for decades. People will buy and re-buy it. It's like Elder Scrolls but the fans don't feel cheated after. If Supreme commander Forged Alliance was rebuilt from the ground up and released on a modern engine, people would continue buying it as long as PC's could run it... Kinda like they do the original.

Please leave your definition of success where it belongs, in your head, not shared with people. Remember, it is better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt.

You can like twitch or not but it's something that matter in the videogame industry. There's a reason why the dude that stream get paid so much just to speak about random game.

There are far more strategy game that died before getting anywhere than one that succeded.
99% of the RTS that followed the hype of Starcraft 2 failed miserably, most game that tried to copy Command & Conquer also failed, same for copy of Warcraft 3.
RTS is one of the genre that get the most failed game simply because most of us would prefer to play the older one that lower quality new release.

Very true. RTS are one of those genres where uniqueness is the one to bring players, combining that with what the players want which is very heavily split between different people.
Yes, RTS is much less popular than other genres, it honestly doesn't help that the RTS scene is so dry and only recycles past games (and badly...)
Devs still have yet to find a good recipe for RTS games.

I can hear TA weeping, seeing what the franchise has become. Just play TA, it's superior in every way. I still play it until today...and I started when it was released back in 97.
If you're always doing the same thing in an RTS...that's a you problem.

then go play COD - if you like that kind of "varied"
