Industrial Annihilation: TITANS
So in the past I've backed Planetary Annihilation by these devs on steam EA. Upon release it was a buggy mess that was then delisted a year later when Planetary Annihilation: TITANS was released which was just a more completed version of the game.

They offered backers a very minor discount.

What is to prevent the same thing from happening again? I already see people are complaining about how buggy and incomplete it was, which is the same state Planetary Annihilation was in.

As far as I can tell, it's just the same playbook again.

Yeah, Planetary Annihilation was one of the greatest ripoffs I've ever experience. No way I'm falling for the same thing twice.

I'm also curious what guarantees we have that this $30 early access *alpha* won't be another overpriced disappointment.

Planetary Annihilation was a sham.
Total Annihilation deserves so much better than this. And it's still superior in every way and perfectly playable today.

Wait, what do you mean they offered backers a minor discount on Titans?

I got upgraded to PA: Titans for free, I'm pretty sure. It was kickstarter project update #116.

(I don't know what benefits were extended to people who bought PA in EA or otherwise as opposed to backing the kickstarter. They might not have been well treated.)

None, obviously, such guarantees are fundamentally impossible.

If you have a negative view of the team's prior work, I'm not sure why you'd even be here.

A negative view of past practices doesn't necessarily mean someone isn't interested in this. It can also serve as a word of caution for anyone on the fence about this game while it is in Early Access. Especially since it's just a question.

I'm gonna take a bite and try it out in its current state, I trust these developers for their past works and their attempts to try to push the genre in new directions, they did new things with total annihilation and planetary annihilation and while they did do questionable things the final products were not only good enough to stand out in the genre, but also extremely modder friendly so that any short comings that do manifest could be stamped out, like bad ai or balance issues.

For now I'll treat what happened with PA as the exception.

Although these developers having to constantly change what name they work under is not the exception, thats definitely a norm, they are clearly passionate enough to try new things but obviously they are doing something wrong outside of that.

"They offered backers a very minor discount."

don't know bout steam players but every KS Backer that had an account on the Uberent. forum got it for free ...

also you are comparing an early access version to a 1.0 release and DLC release

Apologies, I looked into my purchase history and I purchased the game on Steam Early Access. Point still stands despite my mistake in stores.

The is at a very early stage, like early alpha. It be put on early access mainly to give backers access to the game so they can give feedback. Best wait till 1.0 release if you want full game.

Can't forget that the head of the studio had a melt down and proceeded to scorch earth the forums. Blanket banning all negative criticism a week or so after the Planetary Annihilation was proven to be a buggy mess. The $90 pay gate didn't help either.

So what? PA had a road map too. Along with the edited Kickstarter pages to lie about what was offered and the deleted and immediately relisted game on Steam to try and clear all the negative feedback their scam attracted. It's just part of selling the same bait-and-switch they did last time, it's all following the same pattern. The road map is less than worthless, when it's from these guys.

Yet here we are still waiting for Planetary Anihilation to be a full game...
No having to buy a seconde game does not country.

Only kickstarter backers got Titan for free, which was the issue because the ton of Steam players didnt get it for free.
They bought a game, at worst already early on for 90€, only to then later be scammed.
Uber basically honored their early supporters that funded their studio by scamming them and putting a content update behind a second paywall.

I'd say a majority was scammed, considering that their next KS was an immense failure that didnt get past the funding goal, which means more people didnt trust them anymore than people would trust them.
This needed a studio rebranding, a pretty long hiatus and a third KS under new name to get back into business and yet its still haunting them enough to kick their legs.
