Unknown at this point, they said they would like to but funding is tight so without a big kickstarter win my guess is "it's unlikely."

how about just seeing it runs decently well through Proton (a fork of Wine translation layer valve forked and greatly improved for their steam OS)?

I've been running linux as my only OS for years now and generally most games either work fine in proton or they fail miserably. There are very few in the middle. From the (very) little I know, it doesn't take much effort from developers to move games from the second to the first category.

In a similar vein, any news on macOS support?

My guess is it's unlikely, but you never know. I think one of the guys has a soft spot for macs.

Will it be supported by Steam Proton (compatibility layer) at least?

I have a Linux OS laptop for travel and Steamdeck.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I support the Kickstarter campaign.
