About halfway through so far but I'm really enjoying this game! It feels like SMT + Silent Hill + Killer7. It's specific in a really good way and incredibly stylish.

I'm also grateful for the accessibility options. The permanent healing item is just enough hand-holding to make the Silent Hill-esque jank less frustrating, from someone who's never been a huge survival horror fan.

It still feels like an indie game made by two people, but in the best possible way. Sorry We're Closed feels authentic, and is a game that resonates with me because of that authenticity. Kudos to the devs, I hope to see more from them in the future.

Giving an aesthetically satisfying concentration of neon and tv glow, this indie survival horror with a sweetened blend of retro sensibilities and modern refreshments hits like hearing Emma D’Arcy order a Negroni Sbagliato.

This game’s aesthetic is so reminiscent of Jojo, and I’m in love with it!
It’s pretty chill for a survival horror game (you can literally replenish all your health in bathroom sinks), but it gets really fun when you’re dealing with bigger hordes of monsters.
What I liked the most, though, is the number of decisions you can make that impact the lives of other characters. Most of the time, they aren’t even clear-cut right-or-wrong choices, which keeps you constantly wondering whether you're just dooming yourself even further.

Okay, so after 13 hours I got my first ending out of 4 existing (IIRC) and gotta say this game is superb!
Regarding tags/themes, those do work good with game story and add to overall experience in organic and not in anyhow forced way.
If there are cons is that to win certain battles with gamepad was rather impossible for me and required switching to mouse+KB.
First I recommend to try free demo as it contains condensed experience of most mechanics and feel

p.s. be careful as there many points of no return that could make you regret your choices, even though I do plan to replay game and see other endings, regret of giving something crunchy and sour to person who didn't asked for it will be staying with me for quite some time ='(

i really am a lesbian in a horror game hehe

Generally, I would give SORRY WE'RE CLOSED an 8 out of 10. While the story is exceptional, there are elements of the experience which diminish the excitement I had for this game upon my completion of the demo. Namely, I struggled quite a bit with the combat systems during boss fights - moreso on controller than mouse and keyboard (though the issues I had with combat were persistent across both control schemes).

Pros: This is an earnest and heartwarming story about flawed people doing their best to move forward in the world on their own terms, despite the oppressive systems they are enmeshed into. It oozes style at every turn, and is memorable not only for its aesthetic but the way it achieves its presentation of difficult narrative themes. While there are clear lines of influence for this game, it doesn't ape too closely to any of them and as such feels fresh at every turn. The graphics and audio design are immaculate. Characters are memorable and endearing; named characters are presented with nuanced and layered personalities/stories that feel genuine and relatable.

Cons: Innovation comes at a cost, and the combat was deeply frustrating for me. Charging up the heartbreaker attack is a tedious and difficult task on controller due to the narrowness of the windows of opportunity for action during boss encounters and generally imprecise nature of aiming the reticle. While the shifting between first and third person perspective is interesting and novel, it can be disorienting during fast paced boss encounters. Similarly, while the Third Eye mechanic is cool, the way the combat relies on it can be REALLY tricky to master. At many points it feels like you're meant to simply tank damage to progress, which can also be unpleasant. I genuinely do not think I would have been able to finish this game without the infinite heal granted through the accessibility menu.

Truthfully, given how early we are into the lifecycle of this game at the time of my posting this, I foresee that some of my issues with it will be be ironed out in patches/updates by the time you read this review. Please do not let my grumbling deter you - this game is absolutely worth your time to experience!

Overall, I really enjoyed SORRY WE'RE CLOSED and was satisfied with the conclusion I received on my first run. I am very curious what the alternative endings are, and plan to return to this once I cool off about how long it took me to beat the final boss. My sincere thanks to the devs for gifting me a code for their game; I wish nothing but the best for Tom and CB in the wake of this release <3

I have absolutely enjoyed this unique and beautiful game. The dialogue, the different themes of toxic love, the gray morality of it all, the vibrant colors, it's all so good. Absolutely love the art style and the designs for all the demons.
