Yes, just bought and installed the game.
No, just bought and installed the game.

I have not played the game yet, on account of it not opening. Nevermind installing mods...

I find that if you alt tab before the game starts, will cause it to crash. On first startup, let the game load for around 5 minutes and see if that fixes it.

Being able to alt-tab implies that there is something to alt-tab from. I don't get that far.

Ever since I updated to the recent patch, my game has been doing the same thing. I even uninstalled it and removed my mods and verified files, nothing worked.

Same

Had the same issue and I think it's a DirectX issue - there's a lot of error reports for DivaMegaMix.exe on my DX diagnostic file. Sent it over to Sega for them to take a look at.

Found the issue with mine. Go to the game's files and look to see if there's a dinput8.dll file. Deleting that worked for me. If not, one of the things they suggested on sega support was to make a new admin account on your PC and running the game from that account.

There must be an easier way.
Believe it or not that's the easiest thing that they told me to do. The other stuff they wanted me to try was to modify my PC's overclock settings in the BIOS menu or contact the manufacturer to check the PC for system faults as apparently it can't possibly be an issue with the game. Turns out it was just a broken file in the game's folder.

dinput8.dll is a file from a mod. You likely had an old version of a mod installed which was no longer compatible after the game's update.

As for the OP, I've seen this happen especially in Windows 11 if you have several displays connected. I'd also suggest seeing if there's a .ldat file in your game's save folder, located in appdata/roaming, and deleting it. That's the game's graphics settings file and it's possible it defaulted to settings that don't work on your display.

If that's not the issue, the only thing I can suggest is properly reinstalling the game. The latest update caused me visual glitches before I reinstalled, so these things do happen. If you want to try to reinstall, make sure you completely delete the game's installation folder, then uninstall via Steam, then if you want to be sure the installation succeeds, just leave the computer alone while it downloads. My bad install was because I was forced to restart the computer in middle of installing, so it reduces that risk.
If it's suck on a blank screen when it opens, I was able to fix it by installing the Bypass Windows Check mod from Gamebanana, but it looks like it was taken down. If someone wants to try it and see if it works for them, I can upload the folder to Drive or something. I installed it through the Diva Mod Manager, so I don't know if it'll work the same way though. It working also could've just been a fluke for me.
