If you want to approach the game, I recommend starting the main game first and then dedicating yourself to Gaiden later to avoid spoilers on the story.
I'll get it one way or another. I think the savings is better getting it now with chain of echos and then I can just get the DLC later if I want.
I don't know if the bundle is still available but I got both games together.. they are both fantastic, highly recommended.
The Astlibra Revision demo is a mix of mechanics with a pinch of story of the main game, you'd do well to try it to get an idea. :)
