Grasses Not Showing
I'm really enjoying the game thus far. I played several hours and was frustrated I had to hover over the land to see if there were grass, reeds, etc. in the area. I watched a YouTube video (shout out to KatherineOfSky), and I see her game displays the grasses in their brilliant glory. I've searched everywhere for a setting to no avail. Help or explanation, please.

My bad. Found it under the troubleshooting section. Turned off advanced shaders. I see the grass now. My video card is terrible so they're not as beautiful as on the video, but at least they're there. Have a great day, everyone.

From the Discord "troubleshooting" section:

If you don't see Grass:
Settings/Video and turn off Advanced Shaders

I don't know if you have tried that already, if you have than then I have no clue....

Sorry about this. I am currently unable to detect video cards that do not support Geometry Shaders... because they pretend they do lol. So the video cards report Shader model 5, but they aren't really which is a bit frustrating. The video card just decides not to draw the geometry at all. No errors, nothing.

What I am planning to mitigate this is a "shader check" the first time a player starts a new world. So I will show a small gui and the player says yes or no if they see grass. That is about all I can think of at the moment to prevent issues like this.

I will also pin this here because the troubleshooting section does take time to notice.

Game goes to the top of my wishlist. Amazingly fast response from a developer. Looking forward to playing it on my gaming machine rather than at ... shhhhh ... work.

Thanks for the solution, it really helped me.

I have to say that it took me 47.7 hours of game play to bump into info about this. It really makes playing easier to see things on the ground. Game is so great that it did not even bother me. But hey. Now I see oats growing and don't have scan half of the world to find a mushroom.

Good idea. I would have noticed that I'm missing something with this kind of part in tutorial / game start.

Darn. I am going to need another tutorial or something pointing people toward the shader selector just in case. Thanks for letting me know.

Oh I had added an advanced shaders tick box to the world gen with the mouse over text mentioning the grass, but I think I will need to keep that text active all the time.

I think I considered this game as one not that heavy on the machine. So didn't pay attention to video settings. If this would have been a first person shooter I would check all the video settings to get it running in my machine.

Felt quite silly when realized what had been missing. So decided to make my first Steam discussion messages ever. :dssmallbird:

what's weird for me is it worked fine on my old laptop but not my new one with a better video card and the graphics difference actually bothers me I really miss the better look of the grass on the older comp

For the new laptop, if it is a gaming laptop, it may be that you need to activate the onboard video card. There is usually a low power cpu integrated video (these sometimes do not understand geometry shaders) and then there is an actual working real video card, but it eats a lot of power, so when the laptop is unplugged they tend to get turned off.
