Hi all! We have a new translation update for Project Kat and a few notes on the Paper Lily Steam release! First things first:

We've added a new official translation (French - thanks Locasaurus[locasaurus.carrd.co]!) as well as a dozen or so Unofficial Translations created by our wonderful community. As of this writing, these unofficial translations are:

Unlike before, where these languages needed to be installed manually from an external site, these are now accessible from the language menu in-game. Please note that unofficial translations may be added, removed or modified at any time without warning. We also cannot guarantee their accuracy, consistency or completeness. Please direct feedback you have on the unofficial translations to their respective authors.

A few people have contacted us wondering why Chapter 1 hasn't released yet. Actually, chapter 1 was https://leef6010.itch.io/paper-lily-chapter-1 on January 31st! A Steam launch was planned shortly after some bug fixes, but for a number of reasons we needed to take it a little slower. The version that was already released has a few differences to the version coming soon on Steam and Itch.io (v1.1), so we recommend you wait for that one if you want to get a fuller experience.

The features that will be added to version 1.1 are:

• At least 10 endings
  
• A couple of new maps to explore
  
• Achievements! (Steam only)
  
• Some collectibles
  
• More save slots (Project Kat now includes these extra slots as well)
  
• Some other tweaks, fixes and optimizations

We think it's worth waiting for, but if you're really impatient, you can play the itch.io version today, we won't stop you :)

Many people were asking to translate Chapter 1 (some in fact already translated it despite lack of support) and we weren't happy with the previous translation system for various reasons. Because of this, we spent a bit of time redesigning the whole thing for it to be easier to translate the game, easier for players to access the translations, and easier for the translators to get credited.

This is how we're able to present these new translations in Project Kat today. Chapter 1 will use the same translation system, so it needed to be finished first.
That said, we worked on the Chapter 1 Steam version in parallel and it's nearly there, but we cannot promise an exact date at the moment due to life responsibilities.


Friendly reminder that we post updates regularly on our Twitter and the occasional longer devlog on https://leef6010.itch.io/paper-lily-chapter-1/devlog. If Twitter collapses for any reason, we will post updates directly on Steam and itch.io instead.

With that said, since each person has a preferred platform to follow games on, we may consider posting more regularly on Steam as well or adding a mailing list for easier reach. We'll look into this after Chapter 1's Steam release!

Project Kat has had a small quality of life update fixing some of the issues we were notified about, no changes to story or gameplay. This update contains over a year of engine improvements, so if you find any bugs please http://mailto:leef6010@gmail.com.

Friendly reminder that Paper Lily chapter 1 - the continuation to Project Kat - will release in January 2023, along with a Kickstarter. You can follow this link and click the green button if you want to be notified!

• Added various new FPS Limit options (Auto, G-Sync/FreeSync, VSync with Compositor, 40FPS).
  
• Added a setting to change the controller deadzone.
  
• Added an Internal Resolution setting. Higher = smoother camera and better pixel art quality, but demands better hardware.
  
• Added a loading screen (though you may never see it with a fast enough PC).
  
• Added an indicator icon when saving.
  
• Added Kickstarter link.
  
• Moved V-Sync into the FPS Limit setting.
  
• Several new changes to keep the game looking as smooth as possible:
  
  
  • Render scaling implemented. This is "Internal Resolution" in settings.
    
  • Physics will now try to follow the game's FPS when it's lower than 60 FPS (for smoothness under 60FPS).
    
  • Character movement is now smoothed between frames (for smoothness above 60FPS).
    
  • Game will now default to FullScreen + VSync (which is optimal most of the time).
• Improved volume sliders in settings. Volume will now adjust linearly.
  
• Improved volume defaults.
  
• The game will no longer let you customize your controls the wrong way and mess up your settings irredeemably like before.
  
• Updated engine to Godot v3.5.1.
  
• Fixed an issue that made using the analog thumbsticks to navigate menus very difficult.
  
• Fixed an issue that would cause the player to stop walking if a controller with drift was plugged in.
  
• Fixed an issue that allowed the player to trigger ending K6 without cutting the plants in front of the girls.
  
• Fixed an issue where ambiance sounds would go into the BGM channel.
  
• Steam: Fixed an issue on the Steam Deck where the game would stay paused forever upon opening the Steam overlay.
  
• Steam: Simplified Steam initialization to hopefully prevent "Steam isn't running" errors.
  
• Steam: game settings will no longer cloud-sync.

• The instructions box at the top left of the box puzzle minigame have disappeared. Sorry about that! I'm sure it will be back just in time for v1.3.3.

Hi all! We haven't posted here in a long while, but we've been hard at work to bring you some news!

It means a lot that you have all been so supportive of Project Kat since its release! Sometimes just reading your comments and sharing your excitement for Chapter 1 was enough to cheer us up and keep us going! A few words or minutes of your time can often leave a big impact on someone's life!

With that said, here's a small teaser for Chapter 1:

It has been a month since Project Kat’s steam release. We received a very warm welcome here and some wonderful reviews! It’s a pleasure to read them all!
Thanks to you all we managed to land a spot on the front page for a few days (which really baffled us).

Anyway! Project Kat has now been updated to include an official Japanese translation (thanks Sasazaki!), as well as support for translation mods (which had been broken in v1.3.0).
