So conceptually, i really like this game.

It does a really good job of feeling like a pretty meaty survival crafting game despite being card based.

But my god does it get *tedious*, and pretty quickly. Certain resources, mud bricks for example, are extremely time consuming (in real time, for the player) to make. Each individual brick requires you drag one card onto another. Most things you'll be crafting with them require 30 or more mud bricks. But then you also have to gather the resources to make these bricks - mud or dirt + water, and sand. This usually means making four or five trips to three different areas of the island, even with an ideal setup. As you do this, you also need to be sourcing food (trivial - starving in this game is almost impossible) and potable water (harder - you basically need to rush research toward vases and other large containers that can hold enough to be worthwhile and making a *lot* of them to catch rain). Sourcing wood, to power your campfire/stove, is also going to take time, and most tools have durability which will pretty quickly drop as you use them.

This all adds up to eat your time to subsistence over progression, despite subsistence being quite easy. It isn't helped by giving you tons of cards to sort through with no auto-sort feature to make it easier to manage. And while the actual difficulty of the game is often pretty low (resources for basic survival are fairly abundant) there are a few threats than can easily kill you if you aren't prepared in advance, and you probably won't know about them until they do (storms for example, which show up after about 30 days and punish you for not moving inland or into a cave by destroying your stuff and leaving you to freeze to death).

I am very glad I got this on sale, because I would be mad if i paid full price for such a huge grind. Which is really disappointing because there's a lot here to like about the mechanics and systems. Even at a sale price of £10 this is a big stretch. If it included more scenarios/locations or just generally had some dynamic events that switched things up I could see it being a fair price, but as it stands the game feels smaller than it ought to be, and that it hides this behind making the only significant hump a very big and annoying one.

So I don't really know how I feel about this game. Its easy in execution and then it gets real hard real quick.

X1 Moral (and this by far is the worst, well I expect to die) there is no way to get out of this death spiral if you get in it.

Others seem to have an easier time at this game but it makes me want to yell at the screen because I feel like some of the mechanics are BS but I keep playing it and I think I am past the point of sheer stubborness. F' this game I am going to make it my Byotch.

So far, it lives up to the good rating. It's pretty much described in the title - you are survining on a tropical island pretty much the same way as you would in real life, just with cards.

If not for the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I would otherwise most likely wouldn't even try this game, as even if I don't care about the apprearance, it's looks did not draw me at first, but I'm happy I went for it when it was on discount.

Game is very in-depth. It's really amazing how well is this game made. All the cards, text, crafting, together it just makes sense, it's satisfying, at times challenging but in a good way if you are up to learning how to survive in this game. With 5 hours played I hardly experienced anything yet, but looking forward to much more time spend playing this game.

At times it's bit "meh" the whole system of inventory, sorting cards.. you can sort it nicely but you need to scroll left and right.. that's pretty much only meh I have with this game, but you can get used to it quickly tbf.

Graphics are simple but nice, it's about the survival gameplay using cards, which is done very nicely. Recommending this game to any survival games lover, at least to try it out a bit as in 2 hours you can decide if you like it or not. Definitely not for everyone, but me personally I don't regret buying it, especially while on discount. Solid 9/10.

I was writing a longer and detailed review, but the Steam app just sucks and made me lose it, so short version:

I have hundreds of hours of this on mobile, but it's worth to get also on PC for longer sessions (no cross saves, you have to do it manually, look at the General Discussions to check how).

Under its deceptively simple gameplay, lies a deep, complex and intuitive simulation. Its for sure one of the best "survival fix" you can have on mobile, but well worth as a PC game also. High replayability with different character builds, although the island itself is always the same (that is, there are fixed "best places" for everything).

Although the game is highly intuitive, there are some mechanics that require some "meta-knowledge" to deal with. You can have a 60+ day run and suddenly find yourself on an unwinnable situation. My suggestion is to die... I mean, discover by yourself the first time and then look it out on fóruns and Wikis for the next time.

However, if you really dislike and feel frustrated by games like this, take a look at some guide beforehand. I would just point out a major point: from days 60-90 there is a dry season, no rain at all. Be prepared or you'll die. .

And I always play in safety mode. It won't save you from the situations above, but will prevent your from losing dozens of hours of progress because of RNG or a single mistake. It's a great balance between "make your deal with consequences" and "it's a game, not my real life" that I wish more survival games have.

Amazing Survival game, Best I've played I think.
It's pretty much perfectly balanced, there's always tension of running out of food and water, but once you figure out how to get it there's enough room to progress little by little and get better equipment to help you out.

The different characters all provide a unique challenge, especially in figuring out how to survive their starting days. But then they also all have different end game goals to strive for so that they are more then just different difficulties.

The one negative is that interface can be a bit fiddly to manage(mostly it's containers that are the biggest problem) but it's not that bad once you get used to it. And I think it actually feels kind of thematic to have to move stuff around and manage your junk.
