I'm having a lot of good times with this game. If you like retro-fps/boomershooters there is nothing wrong with this *slaps* bad boy. The sound-track is *chefs kiss* a very big surprise. Gun-play is fun and gets better as you play. It grows on you and get the feel for the weapons - you understand their utility for the task at hand. Which is supplied to you in a platter to platter obstacle game-loop. It's very good. You need auto-map skill to traverse and more importantly you need to READ.

I am however perplexed by the wild frame-rates I get with this title. There is a question asked in the FAQ Mekworx (the developer) themselves include about optimization stating they can't really do anything about it because they lack the funds for an engine coder.

AND IT SHOWS.

When I play Selaco, blazing fast, smooth game-play, also using gzdoom engine. But with this, you'll look at a complex piece of geometry which looks really great for the engine, but then you'll hitch up in frames at seeming random times, this is the sign of bad caching and poor optimization. It pulls way from the experience when you have 50 to 80 frame variations. Does it detract from my purchase being valid? Absolutely not, which brings me to my next statement.

It's a damn shame enough people didn't/haven't purchased the game so we can get those optimizations.

Also, the lack of achievements can actually deter people from buying your game. I know I was hesitant but pulled the trigger anyway. Sure would nice to see achievements eventually be added.

EDIT: updating 9/3/24 - didn't know this was a xaser and other doom mod gods' project. I was worried about the first level of episode 2 but I love that level. I was noticing some people were talking about it in reviews but I had a blast.

Also, I'm getting 200fps constant in the second episode as compared to the first going anywhere from 200 frames to 80 fps. As stated, it's very jarring, I'd say at this state to just lock the frames if you're playing the first episode. Regardless coming hot off the heels of the doom remasters I can't wait to get more of this game. Also id needs to hire ya'll for a legacy of rust continuation lol.
