As it currently stands, you can beat the entire game in under 10 hours, and unlock every single part in about 20.

The rest of the game is centered on grinding, which isn't a dealbreaker for me, but the fact that multiplayer is broken so badly that you can't finish most missions without desync or disconnects is troubling. The old SD gundam MMO from OGPlanet had better netcode....

Until that gets fixed, I wouldn't suggest this for 99.9% of players, because the enemy AI is not even remotely a challenge, even on the highest difficulties, so there's not really much outside of showing off your suits in a lobby.

Now, if you're into building, there's a decent amount of customization here. It's pretty freeform, though you're not going to be "making your own parts" or anything. Still FAR and away better than MASS BUILDER though, and it's the best gundam breaker to date in terms of sheer number of parts.

But for most people? You'll drop $60, play for about 10 hours, and have everything you care about unlocking. Unless you're a pedant who wants to count grinding to level every single different part to maximum as "content", there's....not a lot here after the story mode and quests are completed, and those don't take long at all to beat, and once you've beaten them, you'll be left with the broken multiplayer as your next big "feature" and....yeah, it's very broken. Disconnects, desync issues abound, and outside of shorter missions, the chances of you running into a disconnect is VERY high. Survival mode for example is 50 waves long, and I've not found a SINGLE player in dozens of hours of attempts who has been able to stay connected past the first 15 waves before the server breaks down.

Until those issues get fixed, there's not much "Game" here to be had outside of building.

But....do you REALLY want to spend $60~$120 to not play the game, but instead just build 2-3 gunpla and stare at the screen going "Wow this sure looks good."?

A move in the right direction from the last game, but still inferior to 3. Pick it up on sale if you're into the Breaker games.

No mission variety at all, you just teleport between tiny arenas to fight waves of 1-3 elite units with some mobs that are incapable of inflicting harm on you. They even still have a manual fire mode for long range weapons but all combat is at point blank range. There's no real incentive to grind either, once you beat the story all parts and missions are unlocked and the only thing to do is turn up the difficulty on the same missions to make the numbers bigger.

The customization is fun and there are a ton of parts, but it's not in service to anything since the combat is pretty homogeneous, so the parts you pick aren't all that important.

The story is also a special kind of bad. Obviously no one is coming here for the writing, but golly it is a different level of insipid dreck.

I recommend this game with some caveats.

First: You have to be willing to put up with a painfully generic storyline with painfully generic characters. The obvious villains turn out to be the villains, through the power of friendship (and this big gun you happen to have) you will triumph over all obstacles with zero issues (even if the cutscenes like to pretend that your team mates do more than they do)...and do A.I. have soooooouls?

Second: You have to be prepared to do literally EVERYTHING in a mission. Your teammates are only there to provide commentary if you're playing solo, and are virtually worthless as anything other than cannon fodder and the occasional revive if you somehow miraculously get killed.

Third: If you are a fan of the Gundam series, weapons you would think would be highly effective are far less so. The Buster Rifle for instance, a weapon capable of destroying warships and multiple MS in a single shot, is no better than a standard beam rifle. And as another example, your beam sabers are no better than a love tap, you're better off sticking with Zaku II heat axes.

Fourth: If you are not using makers parts, you are making a horribly underpowered build. Same for arms, legs, ect that have abilities. Without those your machine will struggle HARD.

Fifth: There are quite a few kits missing from the game that, quite frankly, we should have had rather than the space used on SD grade ones. There's a tab for Origin series kits, yet none are in the game. Thunderbolt is missing all but two of its suits. There are a lot of variant kits missing, like GM and Zaku Snipers. Ect ect.

It's a solid enough game play loop, if SEVERELY limited by being basically three or four chained arenas that you teleport between beating up enemies that are more speed bumps than real threats. This is on standard difficulty mind you, I haven't done the harder difficulty yet as there is no reward or reason to do so at this point in time that would be worth it. Especially as by the end of the standard difficulty run, along with all the quests on standard and at least one or two survival runs, you will have your personal build at level cap and there won't be any real reason to do anything else with the game (even accounting for switching to the harder to level Master Grade parts you unlock after beating the story).

Best advice is buy on sale, not at full price.

This game is a return to form for the breaker series.

The gameplay is just as good as the previous entries (not including new breaker...), a few things feel like they're missing at first but return as you progress the story (such as merging parts)
My only main issue with the game at the minute, which could be solved with an update, the lock-on seems to drop off the mech your attacking randomly? it's not due to distance, as that is expected, but mainly happens when your attacking with EX moves over and over, then it appears to drop out of lock-on?

Also the the lock-on appears to refuse to move to another mech sometimes too?

Otherwise the game is really good, dozens of ways to make your own Gundam or mecha with dozens of unlockables, with even a "bounty hunter" system, which used to be players gunpla in breaker 3, which now appears to be just randomly put together gunpla and not players own gunpla...? the player gunpla in breaker 3 made it really interesting to play, but now in 4 its just the random ones, it's not quite the same.

Generally though i would highly recommend the game to anyone who's a gundam fan or even just a mecha fan. The issues i've listed are things that can be fixed through updates, so they're definitely not deal breakers.

FYI i've played every minute of the gameplay for this on my steam deck, performance is perfect, battery life not so much unless you drop to low graphics... max around an hour and half on medium/high settings, on low i was getting closer to 2hrs.

Wonderful game where you can either build your favourite mobile suit from Gundam media, or come up with an entirely new one through kitbashing!

Gameplay is simple and fun, and there's tons of weapons and abilities to try out!

Purely as a Gundam fan. I am quite happy about this game. Now I haven't played the previous GB titles(Except for Mobile which was GARBAGE) and I am happy with how it plays. Others say previous titles(not New Gundam Breaker) were better and personally given I haven't played the others before I think this game is still good.

Now as a Gunpla fan I am thoroughly pissed off. Many many Gunpla in game are modeled incorrectly, colored wrong(user fixable but barely), translations are wrong, sound effects are wrong, labeled correctly, etc. I could go on for hours listing off the errors. If you are really keen into attention to detail in how accurate they modelled a Gunpla then look away now.
Suspect 1: Strike and Strike Rouge: Kit in Game = High Grade label(HG) Game model = Master Grade. This applies to the shoulder design for both Strike and Strike Rouge, ALL Striker Packs were modeled after their MG counterparts
Suspect 2: Gaia Gundam(Seed Destiny) colors are wrong... Why is it blue...

Plenty of missions. The decals and minor details look great in close up cinematic scenes. The customization is pretty in-depth.

Has that feeling of playing with your toys as a kid

Just... a really frustrating and disappointing game. The story is absolutely abysmal, the controls are really finicky and they mapped too many actions to single buttons, and there's a huge lack of mission variety in the game. It's just kind of utterly inferior to 3.

Also, why are there even gendered voice options if the story completely ignores them and decides your faceless, nameless, disembodied player self-insert is male? Why are we still doing this in 2024? It's incredibly lazy.

OK so to start. I have played Gundam Breaker 3 (GB3), but most of my experiance with GB is with Gundam Breaker Mobile (GBM).
I LOVE GB. I loved the shows that came out and made me truly WANT to be a builder, and GBM helped my flesh out some of my ideas with its builder.
Now that intro's are out of the way into the meat.

EXTENSIVE ability to customize almost EVERY aspect of your Gunpla build
- if you want to be a melee master you can, shooter you bet ya, hybrid absolutely, mixed weapons without
a doubt
- ability to adjust almost any part for size, angle, position, and/or to be "invisible"
the part is equipped but won't be visible
- ability to USE any part: you can still use a weapon even if the arm already has one inherently
- an absolutely mind boggling amount of prefab paint schemes (the weathering and damage filters are
fun)
- after mastering a part the inherent ability (EX/OP) is able to be equipped without the original part
Simple to play, difficult to master
- you can basically beat the game without having to do any upgrades and just using reward parts. Making
your Gunpla look like Frankenstein's monster. (which i have 2 variations of :-D)
- the amount of depth to the chase of numbers to "MASTER" a build gives you HOURS (if not more) of
gameplay. Especially when ability chips come into play.
The gameplay is fair: without abilities, chips, or enhancements all parts of the same type are equal. The stats of all left arms are exactly the same at max rarity and level 50. That means the total stats of the part you are using depends on what abilities you add to the part itself.

The battle fields are pretty and a bit more detailed than expected.
My personal favorite is the one where you start in the cave and head outside.

The controls are easy to use and understand. (I don't use mouse and keyboard but the option is there)

You can test your gunpla versus other players gunpla which adds a nice calm way to add a "PVP" aspect.

the story is lackluster, in the fact it feels reused. it would have been a decent story if there were more multiplayer aspects but the gameplay makes it feel like a single player game, and because it feels like a singleplayer game i feel like there should have been a bit more character development or a way that makes your accomplishments feel more rewarding, rather than just a statement or a fact. Like yes I know I'm the HERO but yall feel like you're to weak to give me a challenge or that you're any kind of a threat.
It has SOME music, and I know that there is a disparity between anime music making it into video games but I do wish they would use soundtracks from from the anime's to allow a more "This is Gundam" or "Gunpla is Freedom" feeling. Or give use the ability to use our own music.
ok to preface this the battlefields aren't BAD (for some of the missions provided) however i would have loved to see more variety in the structure of the fields.
- all the fields feel more like you're supposed to have a FFA brawl
- the "larger" fields feel like narrow stripes of a road with large rocks on the side
- it seems that the only major change to the different maps are the foliage used
so IMO GBM did a much better job in making the EX/OP skills LOOK powerful and
exciting
- the particle effects in particular feel underused ie trans-am burst, red dragon, and others
- some/most of the verniers do NOT look like they activate, AND you can't change color or
intensity
- and the "hologram" of the part you are using an ability from that replaces your equipped part
while in use is pretty stupid and ruins the look of you Gunpla while in action.
While Technically there IS PVP in the form of battling other ai controlled user Gunpla, it leaves MUCH to be desired. the ai is no different than the regular ai you fight against in the game.
- GBM actually lets you play WITH other players in specific missions. I'm sure that if a MOBILE
game could connect other players to fight together im sure that they could have done the
same with this game and even added true PVP where its a human fighting a human and not a
human fighting and ai. NO I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE ANTAGONIST IN THE STORY
- The major driving point of the game is to "make the best Gunpla" and i feel that it SLIGHTLY falls short by not being able to test your own skills against other players

so you CAN comunicate using emotes and premade comments with voiceover like "Good Build" or "Gunpla is freedom!". that being said im sad that you literally cant type in chat even if you have a team made. there were so many questions i would ask other players like how they made a build or if they want to do any particular missions.
Even the game says in the story that "its a place to socialize" but there is no ability for other players to socialize in game except through "thumbs up". but me being an older gamer also thinks that it is a good thing to keep the trolls and toxic people away from ruining someone else's enjoyment. And there ARE other platforms to use to find other like minded players and still enjoy the game game together.
i do not like the fact that you cant START a new build from scratch, and you cant use a "basic build" to start your new build. Like if i wanted to use an Exia build I'd have to select each part individually instead of using "the box build" selection. This is more of a QOL thing than a pro or con.

I LOVE this game as it is and i can see this truly shining in about a year. I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend this game to anyone who enjoy's gundam models, or loves customizing giant robots, or action arena combat.
Even my wife enjoys this game and she mostly plays Tetris or a Metroidvania game.
