A small, but important release to fix the 7 top issues found in the original 2024.8.0 release. This includes a couple of project tool fixes and several in-game bugs fixed.

GameMaker 2024.8 is here, bringing a vast number of stability fixes and performance improvements.

There have been several IDE fixes for stutters when moving windows or writing code, and also for startup crashes on some user's systems caused by OS permissions problems or antivirus/firewall applications.

On the runtimes side, Android and iOS developers get important additions to avoid submission problems and there are a number of new in-game functions added for Flex Panels, scissor regions, HTTP timeouts, and more debug GUI controls.

- We implemented a fix for the intermittent start-up crash that some users are experiencing in 2024.6 [#6500](https://github.com/YoYoGames/GameMaker-Bugs/issues/6500). If you are one of those users, please do let us know if this is fixed for you by commenting on the GitHub issue above

- Repetitively creating assets using the hot keys caused a crash if the previously created asset was not selected [#6678](https://github.com/YoYoGames/GameMaker-Bugs/issues/6678). This is now fixed.

A small release to fix the top issues since the original .6.0 release - you can find all the info on the release notes below, but in short...

On the IDE side, turned Vsync back on to stop flickering/tearing (and possibly also occasional startup crashes) and stops a problem with the Visual code editor and Undo not always working when expected.

On the runtimes side, there are fixes for precise-per-frame collisions not being accurate for all frames, plus string-joining, nameof() and audio_sound_loop_end() functions not working correctly.

2024.6.1 Milestone[github.com]

This release introduces ray-casting in your games, access to a surface's depth and stencil buffers, the ability to place text in your rooms inside the editor (and manipulate it later on in-game, if you wish), a lot of new additions to the in-game debug GUI functionality, and more...

As well as all the new stuff above, this release has a large number of important stability, performance, UI/UX, and QoL fixes that should hopefully make things a lot smoother as you're using GameMaker.

Note also that there are quite a few important fixes for building projects, collisions, audio/Sequences functionality, and other things which may require you to have to now make some changes in your projects, so please do read the full notes carefully.

A small but very important update to the April release which fixes a number of hotkey issues such as not being able to press certain keys at certain times, problems being unable to build certain iOS extensions, some in-game tweaks to collisions so that you get the same results as 2024.2 and older gave you, and more.

Please note that we have also updated signing to help avoid antivirus issues where these antivirus clients need you to modify your whitelist settings each time there is a GameMaker release and avoid situations where builds fail immediately and so your compiler log is just the one AssetCompiler command. You should always continue to review any OS account protection rules, antivirus rules, and firewall rules each time you install a new GameMaker IDE or Runtime version, as there is nothing we can do to bypass your protection software doing its job.

This release focuses on fixing lots of issues found in earlier GameMaker versions and increasing general performance and stability in various parts of the product.

The IDE has an emphasis on saving and loading fixes, plus hotkeys and UI/UX workflow issues. This release will be especially important for Windows IDE users who find they encounter saving/build issues because their project source code is managed by OneDrive.

There are also a number of important “submission” fixes/additions on the runtime side, including new privacy manifests required by Apple, a new build stage on Android, and several SDK versions being raised to match the current requirements on different platforms, so please do carefully read all of the release notes linked below!

You can see all the changes and fixes by checking the milestone page for this release[github.com], but in summary 2024.2 brings a lot of bug fixes and performance improvements already (especially in-game, but also a number of stability and project-loading fixes in the IDE).

In terms of new features and notable changes, you will find:

• Projects are now saved/loaded in a new format and there have been multiple changes to sort entries in a predictable manner and avoid source control conflicts
  
• Sequences now have audio effect tracks, so you can manipulate the audio in your Sequences over time
  
• The code editor and compiler will now better catch functions which have not had all required arguments provided
  
• #macro definitions now support inheritance (as was always implied by the IDE using a tree for the configs editor)
  
• Tilemaps are now compressed in your rooms
  
• Static functions now have non-anonymous names to help with debugging issues
  
• The in-game debug UI dialogs have had a number of fixes/additions and there have been various fixes to the Debugger inside the IDE
  
• There is a new gml_pragma() option "optimise" for HTML5 games to turn on/off further JS optimisations
  
• A new Gaussian Blur filter has been added for you to use in your games

And also:

• Fixed that borderless games would still resize themselves when using async dialogs, despite not being exclusive fullscreen
  
• Fixed issues with building Extensions on case-sensitive operating systems
  
• And there have been a number of tweaks and improvements for the in-IDE bug reporting tool so it's even smoother and easier to send us a report when issues do occur

Be aware that due to the changes in project format, 2024 IDEs will no longer allow you to set 2023-and-older runtimes as active and they will not appear in the table in Preferences > Runtime Feeds. Projects created/edited in 2024 IDEs can generally be used in older IDEs, so that's not a problem, but if you need to use older runtimes to create or build your projects, then you need to use the matching older IDE also.

A small-but-important release to fix many of the hotkeys issues found in the 11.0 release, plus an issue with in-game where you could not hold down both the left and right mouse buttons without "one resetting the other" in some circumstances.
