Easy guys the black screens can be repaired by you need to download vp9 video extension from the microsoft store. once this is installed (and i never needed a video codec for a game for many years prior) all this stopped and i see every cut scene and video with no more black screens. Please try and report back :)

I ended up getting hit with the black screen bug last night, after falling into a pit. I was mortified, because I was having a really strong run.

My solution was to hold a direction key until I fell into the same pit.

Screen came back after respawning again.

Issues and problems can exist irrespective of your hardware "power", this problem is a prime example of that. Don't be so defensive.

You also don't know what you're talking about. If 'power' is the problem, it would crash or simply run poorly. Not resulting a black screen while the game, especially the coop partner still runs and play.

Funny because all my games are working, but on this poor optimized game, it's my hardware.. lmao sure thing.

In my last 48 hours i had no problems on solo or hosting. But you say it's my hardware.. lmao

I just played a game where i joined someone and was able to play 4 hours without black screen. But you say it's my hardware.. lmao

If it was my hardware then i would have issues with multiple games that are even more demanding than returnal.

Did you try it? It helped many people before.
I can't judge myself as I never experienced this issue.

Had this issue last night in Co Op. We played the entire run from the first room to the final boss. When I spawned into the final boss black screen. This issue exists on the PS5 version going back at least 6 months ago. I have almost 50 hours in the game solo and our first Co Op run this happened. We play tons of other games together co op going back YEARS and we have never had issues like this. I refuse to play this game co op until they patch it.

Also I've watched every cut scene in the game multiple times solo. That ain't it. It's some kind of desync issue. Most likely the same issue that is causing consumables to break, guns to shoot no bullets, immortal enemies, and chests that don't go away after opening.

Also also this has nothing to do with anyones hardware. The "i never had this issue so it must be your computer" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Your specs mean very little. Configuration, optimisation, drivers, conflicting software....

The fact you simply posted your specs thinking that means you shouldn't have any problems says to me how very little you actually understand about PCs.

If those were the problem i would not be able to play 4 hours straight on ANY coop game and i would have this issue on multiple games. But i don't it's just this game.

This is a problem that happened on ps5 aswell. As the comment above you can confirm that aswell.
Because this black screen bug happens during 'loading/connecting' with coop partner.
It's a synchronizing problem aka its the game not my hardware. Now run along and go pretend you're smart else where and stop wasting each others time.

Still not fixed. Just bought the game and started playing with a friend, we both have this. Only happens if you are joining as well, not when hosting. And this on top of a myriad other common bugs and issues. Been a while since I've seen a port that was this garbage. Usually these Sony ports are quite good.

I was having black screens after dying and many times while first loading the game. I can confirm the VP9 codec extension from the app store fixed my issue. None of the videos or even the intro Playstation logo played causing the executable to freak out and hang
