That said, it still has a lot of differences from KH, so please try to go in without expecting it to be exactly the same.
I never played NEO, but having played the first game I'd say the only similarity it has with KH is the character design. From what I've seen, this game is as similar to KH as KH is similar to, say, World of Final Fantasy, another game that Nomura worked on as creative producer and character designer.
Story, not really. Other than the enemies also looking like they'd fit in KH just as well.
(they've also crossed over much later for a brief cameo in DDD)
