I believe the Kingdom Hearts PC ports have the same cutscene issues with proton, so if someone found a solution there it might work here as well. But I haven't looked into that yet.
Navigate to the game directory, then go to StreamingAssets/Assets/cri/movie
You'll see all of the game's movie files here. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll find: STAFROLL01.usm
STAFROLL01_E.usm
STAFROLL02.usm
Rename the extension on these to .bak
Next, find a random movie file of your choice (I used ED_w1d1_E.usm because it's small and short). Make three copies of it, and rename each of them based on the STAFROLL files.
And that's it. When you load the game and the staff credits try to play, it will play the edited movies instead (in this example the Week 1 Day 1 end scene) and you can continue as normal.
After installing, open the app and download the latest Proton GE (I'm using 8-1 as of writing this). Restart Steam and then go to Neo Twewy's game properties. Under the compatability tab you should be able to set the Proton version, and you will find the GE version you downloaded. Just select it and you're good to go!
If you used my workaround from before, don't forget to restore the original cutscenes files by renaming the .bak extensions to their original .usm type.
I just attempted this randomly and I'm glad we have a better solution after so long.
It's not perfect, as there is some smearing, but it's way better than crashing!
