Hi, I got the despair achievement and my character is now burned and can't wear armor, how do I cure this status?

Hi, as per title, I'd like a clarification about [locking/unlocking pasts], please; if I'm not saying a major BS, one way to unlock a rare Past is to kill a boss without been hit, right? My doubt is this, if I unlock 2 more of them, will I be able to choose which one I want to use/lock at the NPC, and 2nd if I die 2 times in a row while I'm carrying a are past, will it be lost forever or once I've got it, it'll go into some kind of special store? Thanks in advance for your time, replies and patience....

Does anyone know what locking or unlocking your past even does? I can't find anything online and I "locked" my past and it didn't seem to do anything.

The game has 73% all reviews and 40% recent reviews. Did something recently happen with this game? I'm interested in buying it, but the negative reviews don't inspire much confidence.
