Update 1.4.0 is available!

Hello, Corporates!

The Grimstar: Prequel update 1.4.0 has been released. I would like to thank you again for all your feedback on Steam and Discord, which also made this update possible. The following are some of the major changes:

New Map Design

A new Optical Map Design has been added, with more objects on the map. The maps should no longer look so empty.

Balancing

There have been further balancing improvements made to the new enemy and player fractions. There has also been a slight update to the existing mission maps.

Bug fixing

A number of bugs have been fixed, allowing the game to run more smoothly. One critical bug was fixed during the loading of new missions. The process has been sped up and shouldn't be interrupted any longer.

Any feedback you have about the new update would be greatly appreciated!

Feedback on the Steam Next Fest Demo

Played for about 5 minutes. I'm a RTS fan, but there is serious problems with this title: 1. There is a synthesized voice for the initial introduction. That is fine; it is expensive to get voice actors, without knowing first that you'll earn the money necessary to recoup the costs. However, the ingame commander, sounded like they were speaking from the bottom of a deep well, and was echoing. It was really hard to hear them, and had to severely crank the volume to hear them. 2. Hello, Corporates!

The Grimstar: Welcome to the Savage Planet update 1.3.0 has been released. I would like to thank you again for all your feedback on Steam and Discord, which also made this update possible. The following are some of the major changes:

Balancing

Balance improvements have been made to the new enemy and player fractions. The existing mission maps have also been updated slightly.

Optimization and Pathfinding

The game has also been optimized again to improve performance, and the pathfinding has been improved so the units do not overlap when moving.

Bug fixing

The game has been improved by fixing a number of bugs. In some cases, even when the place was free, it was impossible to build or call new units.

As always, I welcome any feedback you may have about the new update!

Hello, Corporates!

Update 1.2.0 for Grimstar: Welcome to the Savage Planet is now available. We are very grateful for all your feedback on Steam and Discord, which made this update possible. Here are some of the major changes:

Enemy waves are replaced by AI enemies

Waves of enemies has been replaced with an AI Enemy who also needs to build a base to create new monsters. Currently there are 3 different groups in the game:

Tristar - the corporate faction that players represent.
Red Head Army - deranged Space Pirates that would attack any kind of colony or space ship in order to loot and pillage supplies.
Native fauna - Monsters that will attack and kill any invaders on their planet.

Cutscenes are now replaced by in-game mission briefings

As planned, all ineffective cutscenes have been replaced. Additionally, the speaker has been changed and a small explanation text has been added at the beginning of the game explaining story details.

Overall visual and map design has been changed

The graphics and design of the maps have also been changed, for example the ugly stone walls have been replaced. The game play of the maps was also improved, for example, there are now two maps where you can fight against the Red Head Army.

Base-building system improved

Grid-based building systems make it easier to create good bases without blocking the ways for your own units.

How to make borderless window mode stick

I switched to Borderless mode (or at least I tried to, as the options are named weirdly): - I turned OFF Full Screen - I turned ON Borderless Full Screen (I assume this is actually "borderless window") - I set `-popupwindow` as startup options in Steam While this makes the game run somehow as expected in the main menu (i.e. run in a borderless window), as soon as I enter a game, it switches back to full screen mode and locks the mounse inside the window. Just a few observations. Gameplay * I did not see a way (I might have missed it) to get soldiers to hold position. It would be really good for wanting to set them up so they have covering fire etc. As it is they tend to have this desperate desire to charge into the oncoming enemy and die. "This is General Incompetence to Corp Command. Something is not right with these poor sons of space debris. I refer to the fact its nearly impossible to stop them throwing their lives away. Spammy AI and Stupid Defense Buildings and Power Lost For No Reason

1. Spammy AI The AI is too much spammy, you can't advance a single pixel because you are under constant attack of single enemy wave, especially when your units have problem with auto-engaging, auto-aiming, auto-moving and have zero range. Your units are standing and doing nothing, even when they are standing next to the enemy. "Idle" units like this maybe will be alright but not with a spammy AI, it's never a good idea. Don't try to make another "competive and fast strategy", let turtle players also enjoy ...
