I believe that the golden records do not provide humanity though, only the basic ones. And the basic ones only give humanity in NG+ after you pick them up again, not immediately when you reach the hotel.
pretty sure the above post about that being irrelevant and the choice with sophia being the only difference is about avoiding the "rise of p" ending, which is only true if you have humanity level 8, anything lower and the choice is irrelevant.
basically, if "your heat is pounding" by sophia's choice, then you must not "give her peace".
Ok, I saw on some reddit post other people claiming exactly that too, but people claimed this was false too thus my confusion. Humanity 4 is the lower threshold where you can refuse giving Gepetto your heart and giving Sophia peace is the choice that provides the most humanity in the whole game (according to what I've read anyways). Some sources even claimed you can get the "puppet string" ending while saving Sophia, but you need a very very low humanity prior to that choice in order not to get into the "your heart is pounding" range.
So in the base game, letting her live would generally mean not having enough humanity to trigger Rise of P. The DLC drastically change that balance though making RIse of P very easy to trigger (if you tackle the DLC prior to finishing the main story line that is).
All that said, I feel that from both your inputs I shouldn't always tell the truth so I do gain some humanity to refuse Gepetto (planning to let Sophia live this time around).
Do any of you know how much humanity listening to all the non-golden record provide? I could always use them as a backup plan should my humanity be too low...
there isn't a marker for humanity level 4, once you see that message, you'll know you're in level 5 and you have 260 point before you hit level 8.
for context, small lies net you under 50 points, big lies net you 150.
most records are under 50 too, except the beach one, which is 150.
edit: or the easier route of just letting sophia "live" while getting as much humanity as possible, like the other user mentioned, it only locks you out if you're both at level 8 and you "give peace".
Ah that clears things up, especially the point value of big/small lies. Since I'm planning not to give Sophia peace and not to do the DLC before the main storyline, I think I'm pretty much free of playing "normally" without overthinking it.
Thank you for taking a few minutes off your day to answer this thread!
