Three years already!

Hello everyone, long time no see!

We first wanted to thank those who wished Ghost Exorcism Inc. a happy birthday, and yes, 3 years already since the release! A lot of developments in three years, lots of laughter and jumpscares, and it would never have happened without you and your support!

We're going to answer the most asked questions in recent months, with little sneak peaks of upcoming updates ;)

Is the game still being developed?

Yes! The game is still under development. We have always been a very small team, but that does not stop us from moving forward.
The game being at an advanced stage in terms of entities, evidence, maps and type of contracts, we continue to work on the so-called "comfort" features. But also on one last map, because we can't help it...

When will there be an official release?

This year! If all goes well, the game will be officially released at the end of 2024. Our efforts on the network, various optimizations and the game engine in general have reached a stage that allows us to release the game. The price will not change, the discounts will continue as they always have (long live halloween!) and we hope to be able to launch some challenges and continue small updates here and there in the future, after the release.

Where to find games online?

We have a small and passionate community, but that can mean it's more difficult for players to find public lobbies with players. If you're struggling to find random players to play with, we urge you to create a public lobby for yourself, so that you can allow others searching for games to join you. There is also a Discord community available here: https://discord.gg/ghost-exorcism-inc-845591054635761704 and several players in the Steam community, sharing game codes and tips!

Why not rescues with several entities?

You're right. Why not? Oh, I'm being told in the headset that it's currently being tested and will soon be in beta! Several of you (especially veterans) have asked for it. Rest assured it will be a done deal! Just like a classic multi-entity contract, the "short" mode will offer two entities and the "long" three entities in one contract. The equipment scattered on the ground, as well as the number of employees knocked out (in need of rescue) will be increased.

So, what's new between now and the release?

- Some graphics optimizations
- New colors for our friend the Wisp (he complained of always being the same...)
- New map
- QoL improvements (in the options, in the display of certain information, etc.)
- New Multi-Entity Rescue game mode

[Public] New Behaviors & Randomization fixes - 03/28/2024

Little update about the Ghost Behavior! Even if it's not the Big Part 2, we didn't wanted to wait more for this update!

Update of all entities events and their repartition.
Added special event for the Shadows.
Added special event for the Demons.

Upgrade and fix of the contract randomization: exit the 4 Clown contracts in a row!
Minor bug fix on launching page.
An unfinished avatar was wrongfully available in the charater profile selection. If you need assistance with a potential loss of your save, please contact us (Discord or email) so we can help you. Please give us your Steam name in your request.

Update all languages to remind player in Exorcist contract that they will need to make a 'notebook on fire' to extinguish if the step is required (the previous team did took the evidence with them during their investigation)

[Public] And a Happy New Year! - 01/15/2024

Hello Exorcists!
While we wait for Entity Behavior Update [part 2], here is a small update as well as a list of all we did this year 2023 with you.

Removed seasonal decorations.
Spectator Mode: the spectator can now sprint way faster to be able to follow and watch the player in action.
Toggle for Sprint and Crouch ! (Options -> Controls)

We have added Portuguese translation for the new achievements and minor in-game changes thanks to Marcielcps!

[Announcement updated the 01/15/2024, public-test launched the 01/11/2024]

2023 was a busy year at Ghost Exorcism Inc. and here is the wrap up of our main updates:

Three new maps
Abandoned Farm [USA]
Harrowgate Road [DENMARK]
Catacombe Obscura [Italy]
You can pop the Clown balloons by throwing items to it to make them disappear without taking damage.
Game mode: Multi-entity, from 2 to 3 entities per contract to identify and exorcise.
New Entity: the Wisp, may be shy, but vicious.
Entity Behavior Update [part 1]: special effects for the Memory, Poltergeist and Revenant.
New hot evidence: Notebook on Fire, Smoking Crucifix and Mary Statue.

Environment Scanner, to detect the owner and origin of found evidence. A must have in Multi-Entity !
Glow-stick box, to show the way in complex contract, and mark point of interest for your friends.
Updated the Occult Meter, as it can now show if you are in the right room / floor when it detects the Totem.

Spectator Mode : the host of a game can know watch other player at work without intervening. It was used this year for a tournament (am I forced to say the French team lost? Badly? I'm not proud)
You can now have favorite for your inventory and spawn directly all your stuff quickly at the start of a game.
The Encyclopedia show the Non-Evidence to better guide players, beginners or seasoned ones.
Exorcism Book customization from the Hub, to bring fun or for practical and inclusive usage.

Adjusted the end game rewards.
You can unstuck yourself if needed from the Bug Report app on your tablet, useful if you experience physics problems.
Reset of your microphone from the Options app if it was un-set by the game.
Many many fixes for the graphics and physics of the game.

A big special THANK YOU to everyone who translated the game, this year or the previous one ! You make the game experience way better for anyone from your communities, and make this game a global experience, we know how much you are dedicated to it, and it's appreciated.💙

Not in a particular order, here is what we will work on this new year 2024. A lot of challenges, asked options, new content and more that make Ghost Exorcism Inc. the game it is today.

Updating the Spectator mode (faster spectator, information about the current game, timer...)
Remake of the "Buy custom Contract" interface.
Entity Behavior Update [part 2]: new events, sounds, ambiance and behavior of the entities.
UI update for the van inventory and spawn computer (a new app, to avoid the traffic jam at the back when you start a contract).
Multi-entity in Rescue contracts.
Player can send back objects in the van inventory (...for when you spawned one too many torch)
Re-balance of the Instant Camera.
New playable characters.
New Entity.
New evidences.

[Public] Spectator Mode & New Entity - 12/18/2023

Hello Exorcists!

The short beta-test highlighted some issues with the Wisp that should be resolved now, and its behavior will be updated next update (early 2024) in the Entity Update part. 2.

The Wisp will not interact with the light switches (Stroboscopic and simple on/off) but will move objects and block doors.
Entity related achievements are now rewarded at 1, 25 and 50 exorcisms (instead of 1, 50, 100 previously).
Added seasonnal decorations.

We have added Czech translation for the new achievements thanks to TheCoolestDuck!

We have updated Japanese translation thanks to アルヴィト!

[Beta] Spectator Mode & New Entity - 12/12/2023

Hello Exorcists!
Back with a new public-test version before the end of 2023! Below you will find a summary of this update, but first..

-- New Entity
Since the offices of Ghost Exorcism Inc. have been able to analyze paranormal fires, several discoveries have been made, such as notebooks of writing and drawing spontaneously combusting, as well as smoking crucifixes or statues of Mary. The latest report from our agents indicates the presence of a new entity, named the Wisp.
Its appearance and behavior have been deemed appropriate for beginner exorcists, but be careful! It can be somewhat irritable, especially when exorcists interfere with lights.

-- Spectator Mode
With the goal of offering new tools to players and content creators, a "Spectator" mode has been added.
Only the host of a multiplayer game can be a spectator, and thus follow the players during their missions, invisible to them. Spectators are unable to interact with objects or tools. They can simply spectate. Spectators are able to walk through doors.

NEW GHOST TYPE: Wisp - This entity seems to appear when its soul has been ignored for too long, preventing it from reaching the beyond. It prefers to stay in the light, fearing that the darkness of its past deeds will overtake it.
SPECTATOR MODE! Only the host can be spectator. To activate spectator mode, open the player Profile screen in the tablet (click on the avatar in the corner), and select "Spectator Mode". This can only be toggled while at the Hub.
We've updated the appearance of the "entity hands" for the Shadow (the hands that appear on-screen when the entity has grabbed you).

We have fixed a problem which caused the Hub board to not correctly switch to a new contract, if a new contract was selected before hitting the "back to main" button.

Hotfix - 11/16/2023

Hello Exorcists!
Here is a small hotfix mainly concerning multiplayer; it will be released to the main branch very soon!

We have added a new "refresh" button next to the microphone selection in the Voice Options. This, along with other corrections we've made, should help players who are having problems getting their microphone to work in the game.

In Japan, there should no longer be a 'totem' or 'cursed object' beneath the central temple, which is unobtainable.
We have made a correction that should prevent multiplayer lobbies from becoming duplicated or bugged.

[Public] Halloween Update - 10/23/2023

Hello Exorcists!

Halloween is almost here! This much-loved time is an opportunity for horror games to show what they're capable of!

Today, we are bringing both updates from the beta branch over to the main branch. This update includes a new map, a new game mode, three new possible evidences, new equipment, four new exorcism steps, Halloween-themed decorations in the hub, as well as various fixes and adjustments.

So here is the complete patch notes:

New Evidence: Notebook Fire - The Notebook can now catch fire when nearby some entities, and upon doing so will be evidence.
New Evidence: Smoke: Crucifix - The Crucifix can now begin smoking when nearby some entities, and upon doing so will be evidence.
New Evidence: Smoke: Mary Statue - The Mary Statue can now begin smoking when nearby some entities, and upon doing so will be evidence.
New Map: ITALY - Catacombe Obscura - For centuries, these catacombs initially served as burial grounds for non-cremated bodies. Over time, and with the cessation of this practice, they gradually transitioned into a pilgrimage site, eventually becoming a tourist attraction. Recently, unusual paranormal phenomena have occurred while tourists were visiting this historically rich location. We specialize in addressing such enigmatic occurrences. Let us restore the peace and sanctity of this historical space.
New Equipment: Glowsticks - Players can now buy a pack of glowsticks. Each package contains 4 glowsticks. The glowstick color can be changed with the "Alt Activate" key (usually 'Q' by default). These should come in handy when exploring the new underground labyrinth, or for marking important objects or locations.
Multi-Entity contracts can now have up to 3 entities! Quick Multi-Entity contracts will still have 2 entities, but Full Multi-Entity contracts will now have 3!
New Exorcism Step: You may be asked to break a Tiger Eye capsule on the Dread Origin. In addition to the usual effect, a small blue flame will indicate that the Dread Origin was successfully cleansed with the capsule.
New Exorcism Step: You may be asked to break a Salt capsule on the Dread Origin. In addition to the usual effect, a small blue flame will indicate that the Dread Origin was successfully cleansed with the capsule.
New Exorcism Step: You may be asked to break a Holy Water capsule on the Dread Origin. In addition to the usual effect, a small blue flame will indicate that the Dread Origin was successfully cleansed with the capsule.
New Exorcism Step: From now on, you may be asked to throw a Holy Water Capsule on a Burning Notebook. In addition to the usual effect, a charred appearance of the Notebook will indicate that you have successfully completed this step.
Exorcism Step Modification: An entity can now simultaneously have Writing/Drawing evidence in the Book AND on a Surface (one no longer prevents the other)!
Added an additional Holy Water / Tiger Eye / Salt capsule to the free equipment rack (depending on the contract type).
Added a "Halloween" decoration theme to the hub !

Changed map loading method to improve performance.

[Beta] Halloween Update - Part 2 - 10/19/2023

Hello Exorcists!

We are thrilled with the reception you've given to our Halloween update. We hope that the 3-ghost Multi Entity hasn't given you too much trouble!

We are rolling out the second part of this update, which includes some new features to adjust the gameplay and allow for a greater variety of exorcisms.

Reminder: The patch notes for the first part of this update are available HERE.

Reminder 2 : the "public test" beta is accessible by going to your Steam library, right-click Ghost Exorcism INC -> Properties, then go to the "Beta" tab, and select "public-test" from the dropdown list. A game update will then begin. This will allow you to test the latest beta update with the new features mentioned in this patchnote.

New Exorcism Step: You may be asked to break a Tiger Eye capsule on the Dread Origin. In addition to the usual effect, a small blue flame will indicate that the Dread Origin was successfully cleansed with the capsule.

Halloween is almost here! This much-loved season is the time for horror games to show what they're made of!

We've decided to make a splash for this period by offering you a multi-entity contract upgrade (they can have up to 3 entities now) 3 new evidences, a new piece of equipment, as well as a new labyrinth map!

Devblog - 09/20/2023

Hello Exorcists!

We're checking in with some updates! Development is progressing well enough for us to share more details about the features coming in the next update.

Firstly, as many have guessed, the theme of the next map will be the "Catacombs"—a damp, stone labyrinth filled with bones of all kinds, where getting lost will be easy. We're excited for you to try out this new location!

Additionally, we're adding three new pieces of evidence to the Ghostpedia: Notebook Fire, Smoking Crucifix, and the Smoking Mary Statue. These are sure to spice up your contracts! More details on how these pieces of evidence work will be in upcoming announcements.

What was that last thing we wanted to add? Hmm...

Well, we've just been informed that a photograph has arrived at our headquarters, taken from within the very catacombs we're planning to work with. Can you see the two entities in this photo? Something seems off, doesn't it?

We'll investigate this and bring you more details in future updates and/or upcoming dev blogs. Stay vigilant!
