It allows you to change your mind, you have 24 hours to do so
It also allow you stop the deletion and retrieve items that you may have forgotten before deleting the character
Not sure what still works this way but it used to be when you logged into the game what ever character logged in first got send the event items and power passes, and if you deleted that character you lost them, so likely this system was added to stop support tickets.
They have so many bad systems like this that more or less try to get people frustrated enough to spend money for work arounds like buying more character slots instead. everything they do is to milk people for money based on predatory systems.
The 24-hour wait time to delete a character isn’t just a little inconvenience for returning players, it creates unnecessary friction for no meaningful reason. Given your points:
“It allows you to change your mind”
The system is already there by typing the character's name which already ensures deliberation. This delay doesn’t add value for players who are certain about their decision, especially for low-level characters with minimal to no time investment. For anyone who wants to return to the game, this just feels like an arbitrary hurdle.
“It allows you to stop the deletion and retrieve forgotten items”
This point would make sense if players deleting characters frequently forgot important items, but Lost Ark already has systems to mitigate this, such as allowing players to manually transfer gear and items. Plus, low-level characters (like my level 14 one) usually don’t have anything critical to retrieve. If for some reason it has anything important to retrieve a simple warning pop-up or a one-hour grace period would be sufficient here.
“Prevents issues with event items or power passes”
If this feature was implemented to address past problems, there are better solutions. The game could track these items and reassign them during character creation or provide an inventory check before deletion. Penalizing all players with a 24-hour wait feels excessive.
“This is not the game for you”
This argument dismisses valid feedback. The goal of modern games should be to encourage players to return and enjoy the experience, not alienate them with restrictive mechanics. A system that frustrates returning players is counterproductive to a healthy player base.
Ultimately, the 24-hour wait seems less about protecting players and more about nudging them toward buying additional character slots. Many other MMOs handle character deletion efficiently without this kind of delay, proving there are better alternatives. Returning players should feel welcomed, not like they’re being punished for wanting to play again.
spot on man, it's about making money every little way they can think of. no matter how much worse it makes the game. If they removed all the predatory tactics it would be a next level game.
I mean i woulda just uninstalled again and play something else if i wanted to delete a character and had to wait 24 hours to play. I owe this game nothing and if having to wait 24 hours to play cause of scam tactics to try and get me to swipe, I don't think it's unreasonable to be like. lul what a trash game.. i'll play something else that doesn't have a stupid setup like this.
