Hey Citizens!

It's the end of the month and, as usual, it's time to pull back the curtain on what the team worked on over the past four weeks - as well as what's coming next for City 20!

After the two hotfixes we dropped over the first week of April, we were able to focus on new content for our next major milestone. The update should be coming in the next couple of months - more news on that soon - and will bring major changes to the game. Let's see what you can expect!

After getting feedback from a lot of our players, we decided to rework the way you can fight your enemies in the game!

Over the past few months, we've been redesigning our combat system from scratch, focusing on making combat in City 20 more dynamic, intuitive and fun! While this is a work in progress, a first version of the new system will already be available with our next update - with further fine-tuning and improvements planned for the future!

Our goal has always been for City 20 to feel alive and realistic, which is why we've been working on adding more unique NPCs to the game. Among these, you can expect to run into henchmen that will try to extort money out of you, hunters stalking their preys and even herbalists growing plants to make medicine!

The factions in City 20 never rest and neither did we. For the next update, we're working on a number of new props, models, and animations - which will all contribute to how the city looks and feels to explore.

In addition to that, we're also working on restoring Bulletin boards - from where you'll be able to accept special quests from various NPCs for extra Pamyat! Electrical Shelters will also make an appearance throughout the city in the near future, each containing a node you can repair to restore power!

Finally, we're also aiming to make getting into City 20 easier for everyone! The team's working on a new starting area, which will also shed additional light on the protagonist's lore and background. And while Goga will still be the first human you'll meet in City 20, we're also reworking his behavior and the way he'll interact with you!

Thank you for trying out and testing the new content that came with the radiation update! This week has been a busy one and, right after releasing v. 0.5.1 of City 20, we got back to work to squash more of the bugs you've been reporting!

Here's what our latest hotfix tackles:

• Camera: fixed a bug where, after loading a game you had saved while inside a building, the game's interior camera would remain active regardless of whether you left the building;
  
• NPCs: fixed an issue that caused NPCs to get stuck and randomly die when loading a save created with another version of the game;
  
• UI: fixed a bug where, under certain conditions, players could only select "Donate Item" in the trading screen;

As we mentioned a few days ago, these past few weeks we've been hard at work to fix several new bugs introduced with the recent Radiation Update!

Here is a full list of the issues the current patch addresses:

NPCs and Characters

• NPCs will no longer introduce themselves at inappropriate moments (e.g., while the players are trespassing, committing a crime, or near a dead/fainted NPC).
  
• We kindly asked NPCs to stop trying to speak to the players at the same time.
  
• Fixed a crash that occurred when NPCs interact with multi-NPC relaxation areas (e.g., tables) under certain conditions.
  
• Vomiting and coughing caused by radiation no longer stops as soon as the player gains the "radioactive" status.
  
• The stamina bonus effect from equipping the Exolegs should now apply correctly.
  
• Wearing hazmat pants now correctly counts as wearing pants.

Quests and Progression

• Solved an issue that caused players to get stuck in counter-offer dialogues during beating quests.
  
• Fixed a soft-lock that happened after failing the gasoline quest in certain conditions.

UI and Miscellaneous

• Your first Apartment Key is no longer removed when purchasing a second apartment.
  
• Fixed a number of navigation actions in various menus.
  
• Fixed advanced furniture UIs to work as intended.
  
• Picked up containers now correctly show the name of the substance they contain.
  
• Fixed a crash that occurred when switching between the map and the NPC List.
  
• Trees no longer spawn overlapping each other.
  
• The Geiger Counter sound is now working as expected.

Known Issues

• Missing gamepad prompt icons on game launch. To resolve this, simply make any change in the settings and save. The issue will not occur in future sessions.

A number of other smaller smaller issues have also been addressed.

Following your requests for more freedom to experiment, the hotfix also introduces a reworked saves system. City 20 now automatically keeps the last 5 saves for each playthrough, allowing you to restore previous versions of your progress.

In order to load any of the previous saves, simply head to the "continue" or "load game" menus and select the game you'd like to load. You'll see up to five different saves, each labeled and tagged according to the in-game date and real-world time they were saved.

As we leave March behind, it's time for another update on what the team at Untold Games has been working on! A lot has happened in the past 30 or so days and we have a ton of news to share with you! So let's get started!

March marked our biggest milestone yet, with version 0.5.0 introducing the brand new Radiation mechanics, a new way to acquire and learn blueprints, new areas to explore, vendors, NPCs, and much more!

Of course, as with any major update, a couple of bugs have slipped through the nets. Alongside our amazing community (yep, that's you! <3) we worked tirelessly on finding and squashing as many issues as we could! We'll be deploying a new patch in the next couple of days, which addresses a lot of the problems you reported in the last month!

Keep an eye out for it!

You know we're always working to make City 20 more fun and exciting to play! Alongside the fixes, the patch we just mentioned expands City 20's saves system!

With the new system, you will have up to five game slots to choose from - two more than the three that you are currently used to. Alongside that, each save slot now lets you access your last five saves for that game - allowing you to create multiple "backups" of your adventure and always have somewhere to fall back to as you keep playing.

Let's be clear, this is absolutely, 100%, cross my heart NOT designed so you could go on a rampage! ;)

Alongside stability and quality of life updates, we're also working on improving City 20 all around! Over the next couple of months, we'll be reshaping some sections of the game - making it easier for both newcomers and City 20 veterans to find their way in our dystopian world!

As you might have heard on social media and Discord, City 20 is getting irradiated! Version 0.5.0 brings a slew of changes to the game!

For those looking for a new adventure, prepare to explore the LINAC - a mysterious abandoned research facility with an eerie backstory. Visit the complex's surroundings, deal with the huge amount of radiation that makes the land inhabitable, and do your best to discover what lies beneath its concrete walls. Rumors have it that unspeakable experiments were conducted there before the incident, so be ready for anything!

But that's not all! We heard your requests for more ways to learn and discover things in the game, which is why the update also introduces readable recipes and blueprints. And then lore notes, a new Doctor NPC, a wider selection of items available in stores, and much more!

Radiation update - Full Changelog

Radiation System

• Visit the LINAC, a new playable area with explorable buildings.
  
• Learn to deal with the "Radiation" status effect, which progressively impacts the player as your exposure increases.
  
• Discover and craft new items to counter radiation exposure, including a Geiger counter and hazmat suit.

Documents & Books

• New documents revealing lore elements of City 20 have been scattered throughout the map. Find them all!
  
• You can now unlock blueprints and recipes from books.

Stores and NPCs

• Meet a new NPC: the Doctor. They will come in handy when your limbs start falling apart from radiation!
  
• We have expanded the Mozga Emporium to offer a wider selection of items!

Food & Economy
We rebalanced some of the food effects to make gameplay more interesting;
We tweaked the prices and values for some of the resources;

Tech & Misc

• City 20 now supports AMD FSR 3.1 and NVIDIA DLSS 3.7;
  
• You can now choose controller glyphs from your favourite console in the options menu;

Known Issues

• Missing gamepad prompt icons on game launch. To resolve this, simply make any change in the settings and save. The issue will not occur in future sessions.
  
• Beating Quest: Some branching paths still have unresolved bugs.

IMPORTANT SAVES-RELATED INFO:
Because of the way the update works, this patch WON'T allow you to keep loading your old saves. That said, we want to give everyone the chance to keep playing your old games if you so desire.

To do so, you will have to access a specific version of the game on Steam, which won't include the December update but will remain compatible with your older saves. Below is a quick step-by-step guide for it.

• From your Steam library, right click on City 20 and open the "properties" panel;
  
• In the properties window, head to the menu on your left and open the "Betas" tab;
  
• Next, locate the Beta Participation section and click the downward blue arrow to reveal your Beta options;
  
• Locate and select the "0.4.1" Beta Branch, which includes the older version of the game;
  
• Your copy of City 20 will now update. If everything went well, the game should now be labeled as "City 20 [0.4.1] in your library.

We come bearing NEWS! To give you a better view on the future of City 20, we decided to start a series of monthly dev logs. Every 30 or so days, you'll get a glimpse into what our team accomplished and what you can expect from the near future!

So what did we work on in February? Quite a bit, actually!

One of the biggest changes to the game so far, our next update will include a brand new radiations system. While we'll share more details about it in the near future, know that City 20 is getting irradiated soon. This will mean new areas to explore, a new "irradiated" status you'll need to deal with and new items to craft to fend off radiations!

The radiations system also introduces a new potential job for members of the Mozga faction - they can now be Doctors! As you might have seen on our social media, doctors will be able to heal the effects of radiations, give you more information about your character's health and sell medicine! We're also adding new interiors for the Doctor's office, which will look somewhat like this below!

We heard your requests and have come up with an easier way to learn new blueprints - all without having to deal with or befriend people. So keep an eye out as you explore! With future updates, you'll start to find notes scattered throughout the city. These notes will not only give you a peek into what happened to the City itself, but also a chance to learn new blueprints and recipes!

Notes aren't the only thing we'll be adding. With the next update, we'll be introducing new props, new sound effects, and items for you to interact with. We're also restocking the Mozga Emporium, which will now start selling a wider variety of goods!

As we keep working towards our next big milestone, City 20 just received its first update of 2025!

The patch introduces two new quests that tie in with and expand the Nostalgic Nurse and the Pen Pal storylines; shedding more light on the lore and backstory of City 20. In addition, we are also deploying dedicated hotfixes to take care of some minor bugs you have reported over the past few weeks.

Just a few days remain in 2024, and we have a winter holidays gift for you all! City 20's third major roadmap milestone - the Locks and keys Update - is now available to download!

The December update introduces a new major gameplay mechanic to City 20. People throughout the city will now use keys to protect the most valuable areas of the map, locking places like their homes, factories, stores, and much more!

But that shouldn't discourage you. If you knock someone out and rifle through their belongings, you might be able to steal the keys! All keys in your possession will appear in your keyring, where you'll also have the chance to locate the door that each key opens. In addition to that, we're also adding a new craftable item, the makeshift lockpick, which can help you get "creative" when it comes to gaining entry to new places.

Whatever your plan is, though, you should act quickly. If citizens realize that their keys have gone missing, they'll report the theft to the faction authorities. Likewise, they will also change their locks - making your efforts effectively useless!

For a quick recap, here's what the update introduces:

• A brand new Keys and Locks system;
  
• NPCs now react to losing or getting their keys stolen;
  
• Inhabitants will be able to change door locks;
  
• Players can now lockpick doors to gain access to new areas of the map;

As 2024 comes to an end, we look back and celebrate what we've achieved so far!

Ever since its inception, we wanted City 20 to take place in a world where player actions would meaningfully impact everything around you - so that whoever was in control could really feel like a protagonist. Throughout the years, City 20 has been our sandbox to experiment new narrative approaches, play with technology and create a survival adventure that could really feel unique - even to the most hardened of veterans.

Thanks to your feedback, we were able to further expand the game - making it even more realistic and fun to play. With two updates under our collective belt and a supportive community to push us forward, these past few months were but the beginning of a long journey towards our original vision. And while we still have plenty to do, we believe that City 20 is already making a difference.

For that reason, you can now nominate City 20 in the Innovative Gameplay category of the Steam Awards! You have until December 4th, 10AM PT to cast your vote!
