Probably, I'd say. They said the old version saves wouldn't be compatible with N2, so they probably aren't compatible with new!N1 either.

I deleted the old saves and started over, that did fix the problem with the saves, but did not fix the problem with the replays. The replays still crash with a similar error.

Nope, starting a new game does not help. Apparently once the replays are unlocked under an old save, they remain unlocked in the old way.
