Steam Deck Compatibility
A thread where we discuss the compatibility for the Steam Deck!

I received a second wave Steam Deck, this means I have had my hands on it since early 2022. I have been committed to supporting Steam Deck since day 1 and I am happy to share that Shores of Plunder runs very good on the Steam Deck. At the time of writing this (September 3rd, 2022) I can say that almost all of the features work using just the gamepad but I am in the middle of updating the navigation and styling for menu items so until that is complete some menu items may only be accessed by using the touch screen. I intend to have full menu navigation by the end of the month (September 30th, 2022).

Thanks! I'm installing Shores on my Deck right now for science. All hands on Deck!

My apologies I didn't get to your comment sooner. That's great to hear though! For the Steam Deck I highly recommend you adjust the graphics settings in the Display Menu to get your preferred balance of performance and visuals. I use the auto detect button and am pretty happy with the default settings it chooses.

No worries, and thanks for getting back to me!

The default Deck settings are definitely inadequate. I was getting at most 15 frames in the tutorial area. The UI is also too small for comfortable Deck usage but I didn't look into UI scaling, and it might be less of an issue when I try lower resolutions.

Yes I wouldn't expect it to run well on the default settings since the Steam Deck is a low-mid performing machine. I will share recommended specs on this page closer to the launch date (the settings I use hover between 30-40fps without sacrificing too much visual quality)

UI scaling is on the todo list during early access but there are more important priorities above that.

I really appreciate your feedback though, thank you so much!

Hello again! I just wanted to follow up to let you know that for brand new players, the game now prompts them to ask if they would like to auto-detect their graphic settings. This should be a good start for anyone playing with the Deck. Thank you for your feedback it brought a potentially big problem to my attention.
