I experienced some odd bug on my first playthrough: I could not pick up the Laser Beam, the enemies were both invincible and static and the initial scripted ambushes did not happen. It is only after I backtracked and I destroyed the coffins as indicated that I was able to pick up the Laser Beam and the enemies start attacking me as intended.

On subsequent playthroughs, this did not happen. Really strange.
