[SOLVED] Steel mills unexpectedly stop producing steel
Hey, new player here.

I've noticed that my steel mills just randomly stop producing stuff while still consuming iron ore. The information window says that it produces zero steel, trains get no cargo too. I haven't touched them in any way.

Happened to me on 2 saves already. On the second save I've even funded a new steel mill in the next town near the suddenly broken one, and it shown the same behavior - it slowly consumes ore and doesn't produce anything. Ore slowly builds up on the ore receiving station. Ore and steel stations are separated and have different names.

I'm running vanilla game with zBase graphics pack, nothing else.
Am I missing something?

However if the train is set to 'transfer and leave empty', then the ore will build up at the station without being used by the steelmill.
I incidentally did the same by accident in a recent game when I upgraded my ore feeding system :P

Freight will never "pile up" at the station you're delivering it to - it gets instantly transferred to the factory that consumes it. If you see piles of ore on your platforms, that means it hasn't been delivered, it's been transferred and waiting for another train to pick it up, like Matewis said.

Also, industry in the base game doesn't really "stockpile" stuff, they consume everything you deliver almost instantaneously. I think some NewGRFs alter that behavior, e. g. SPI.

Can you upload a screenshot of the train's orders and where the station is located?

Yeah, the 'transfer' mode was the culprit. Looks like I haven't noticed the relationship right away because not all steel was transported in one go so the steel trains had some work to do before the steel production ended.

I should have paid more attention to the game manual before playing with those things. Thank you very much!

This is the best way to learn these things. Game manual or no, trial and error is the way. And if you get stuck, there's this forums.
