So far, i play by adding a f1 manipulation before exiting the periscope view so the mouse pointer appear again, so i can move it out of the fire button, before clicking what i want to select.
My feeling is that they tried to make the game playable with steam deck or controler and so, it auto select the fire button to adapt it to the people who play with something else than a mouse... So a kind of Steam 'by default' setting maybe, that i have no intention of finding nor the patience to look for it... it is just a bit distracting, not a game changer.
I still shoot my ladders torpedoes on the left side of those battleships and hit them when the torpedoes return and its a blast! They just don't know what hit them, espacially that they thought they had escape it the first time... lol ;)
Now, the trick is to shoot 2 red torp at those pesky escorter (one on each side) so i create a dent (like when i play bowling...bad me) and slowly dive at 160 meters, go silent and slip in unnoticed... i then emerge the other way of the battleship still alive and turn on myself and shoot with often no escorter on that side... perfect shot... BOOM. BOOM...and BOOM. Target Destroyed...
We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine... this should be a mod...
lol

I'm not even sure if this will change my button configuration, I just happen to see your post after reading a post on this myself.
That disable the button. So, no more problem. Just use the launch torpedo hotkey from there.
No, i am kidding for the siren, it was not that deep a sim, but it would have been fun to watch! lol ;)
Happy Hunting!
