Silent Hunter III

Silent Hunter III

The last update did something weird to torpedo launch!
Hi Fellow Captains,
i don't know what happenned recently but when i use my periscope, my torpedoes fire button is automatically selected so each time i try unselect the periscope or try to select another tube than the one selected, i got a FIRE torpedo lauch even if i don't want to do that! it is very annoying and expend a torpedo often leading to a torpedo being shoot in the wrong direction. Worst, it makes me dectected as i lauch a steam torpedo and it was not my intention!
Anybody else get that glitch?

Sorry never heard of that one, but when was this update and what was it about?
i don't know. All i know is something changed. Now when i use the periscope for attacking, my fire button is automatically press when i just try to leave my periscope view to select something else than moving it right or left. So each time i want to leave the periscope view by clicking the mouse, i automatically press the fire button since the mouse is automatically on top of that button!!! so annoying!!! i lose at least 2 torpedoes each time i play a solo mission. Now i have to leave one torpedo tube empty so i can leave the periscope alone without shooting one torpedo away!
Just made me think JESSIKA 07 , BEEN PLAYING SINCE 2004 OOPS CAPS SORRY LOL, never experienced that one in all that time or heard of it, have you tried a full uninstall and reinstall and check files Verify your files ,i know its a ball ache but sometimes old code reacts funny with code 20 years in the future , keep at it in the end this game has given me 1000's of hours so don't go of hours played didn't even come on steam until 2011 its a good comunity so someone will have the answer...ATB...Happy Hunting....SNAFU
love this game noneless. Don't worry, it is not one empty tube that is gonna make me stop playing one of the best game ever made! shooting at 3 battleships and 9 escorter is way too much fun for me to leave that game alone! lol ;)
I have never seen - or heard of - this problem before and I've been playing for 10 years. If it continues, go online to subsim.com. There are players there that will know if no one else does.

How are you doing with it, any answers ?
Sorry, water was stormy...
So far, i play by adding a f1 manipulation before exiting the periscope view so the mouse pointer appear again, so i can move it out of the fire button, before clicking what i want to select.

My feeling is that they tried to make the game playable with steam deck or controler and so, it auto select the fire button to adapt it to the people who play with something else than a mouse... So a kind of Steam 'by default' setting maybe, that i have no intention of finding nor the patience to look for it... it is just a bit distracting, not a game changer.

I still shoot my ladders torpedoes on the left side of those battleships and hit them when the torpedoes return and its a blast! They just don't know what hit them, espacially that they thought they had escape it the first time... lol ;)

Now, the trick is to shoot 2 red torp at those pesky escorter (one on each side) so i create a dent (like when i play bowling...bad me) and slowly dive at 160 meters, go silent and slip in unnoticed... i then emerge the other way of the battleship still alive and turn on myself and shoot with often no escorter on that side... perfect shot... BOOM. BOOM...and BOOM. Target Destroyed...

We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine... this should be a mod...
lol
;)
JESSIKA 07, so at least a work around that works for you lol....Happy Hunting....SNAFU
Have you maybe edited the data/Cfg/Commands_en.cfg file? I noticed today, here is where I can change the button configuration. I was thinking maybe you might have added a second torpedo launch trigger, which happens to be

[Cmd313]
Name=Fire_torpedo
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x0D,,"Enter"

I'm not even sure if this will change my button configuration, I just happen to see your post after reading a post on this myself.

no, no edition on my part... like i said, maybe they did an update to make it usable on steam deck or something and left that in the settings... but that is ok, just something i noticed. still play nearly everyday... ;)
I don't believe its related to any update, I had this problem since I played this game with a 1920x1080 resolution. I found a solution somewhere but I don't remember the place so instead of providing a link, here's a copy/paste of what to do:

The following items are from the default menu_1024_768.txt in GWX 3.0 - If the block numbers are different, you can just search for the term "Name=Torp launch".

Find you copies of the menu_1024_768.txt (usually this is C:\Program Files\.....\data\Menu) and right-click and choose Open With - Notepad.

Once the file is open, hit Ctrl+F to bring up the search function and look for these blocks:

That disable the button. So, no more problem. Just use the launch torpedo hotkey from there.

Ok thanks for that, friendly Phil. I still like to use the button. I just have to remember to hit the f1 key before i get out of periscope control, that's not such a big deal... except this time when i am in Scapa Flow and fired against the coast line, waking up everyone in the middle of the night, siren and all...
No, i am kidding for the siren, it was not that deep a sim, but it would have been fun to watch! lol ;)
Happy Hunting!
