I'm a few minutes into the very first AC game, and so far so good!

Be aware though, as a default it starts with the controls set to keyboard (even if the Steam Deck settings say otherwise).
After the short prologue scene you'll be prompted to 'press any button' - but no button will work.

Double tap the screen, it'll ask you to create a profile so press the Steam button and 'X' to bring up the keyboard. Enter a name, then press on 'options' on screen, then controller. Change this from keyboard to Xbox 360 controller.

And yes, it did take me a stupidly long time to work that out, so hoping to help others avoid that pain!

A little clarification on Jase's answer for those of us that are less than potato powered... It took me longer than I want to admit that to realize that the arrows on the left and right sides of "keyboard and mouse 2 buttons" are how to swap input methods. Tap left until you get to the 360 controller option and enjoy the game.

Getting into the game is a bit tricky but once in seems to run fine.

I seem to have microstutters that also make lines of dialogue repeat. Let me know, if you are experiencing the same thing and/or have a fix for it. It doesn't seem to be tied to the graphic settings.

Edit: Found the reason behind my stutters: I had manually increased the UMA Buffer to 4GB and that didn't sit well with AC for some reason. I went back into the Bios to reduce it to the native 1GB and voial - now it runs smooth as butter again.

Glad to hear some of you have been experiencing the game on Steam Deck :)

Just to mention, our games aren't technically supported for Steam Deck at this time and haven't had updates to make sure they are compatible. Of course, they may work, but it's always a good idea to just do some research like this to see if others have had any luck with them before making a purchase specifically for playing on Steam Deck.

That's interesting, thank you for that reply. Of course I wouldn't expect a company that has a huge back catalogue like Ubisoft to go through old games to check them - but I'm beginning to wonder if I can trust the "Playable" status Steam claim on games.

I keep banging on about this (and know it's not an Ubisoft game!) but Forza 4 freezes very very very often, claims the - Steam Deck! - controller is disconnected, loses audio etc even though Steam lists it as Playable. There is very obviously some conflict going on with the game and the Deck, it's very much unplayable.

No worries Jase. In the example you provided there, it could just be that they checked to see if the game launches and gets past the main menu and then deemed that enough without fully testing, as they obviously have a lot of games to test with it, it would be a pretty impossible task to fully test them all or test them for a long period of time. Hopefully you'd be able to make a case for a refund in any situations like that if required.

Just starting playing ACI on the steam deck, works well. I have the same micro stutters and did no adjustments in the BIOS.

Just completed AC on steam deck. Played really well throughout, crashed once when trying to walk around the assassins bureau during a cut scene but restarted and all was ok. Didn’t try to do it again and had no other issues

@UbiFroggard and @Ubi-Cintre - I know Ubisoft gets a lot of abuse online because of certain business practices, but I have to say it's cool that you look on here and support such an old game. Credit where it's due!

When I open up I have to use touch controls to make a profile once you get a profile u gota close the keyboard and select options go to controls and go to xbox 360 and then I use the assassination community layout and works perfectly but if I have to close game I gotta go back to options and use arrow to go to keyboard then go back to 360 otherwise it'll freeze hope this helps
