Need help with Assassin's Creed?

Have you witnessed any bugs, has your game crashed or are you experiencing some performance issues with the game?

Please use Steam's 'Search Discussions' search box, to first look for other player threads about the same issue. We will often mark threads with a blue tick check mark to show an answer was found in that thread, that resolves that particular issue.

Save File locations:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\Saved Games

To use a controller:
Make sure the controller is connected to your PC and recognized in Steam > select the game tile > select the Steam options cog > Properties > Controller > select Disable Steam Input

Next, in the games menu, select options > customize controls > then choose controller

*Game does not require the Ubisoft Connect launcher to play*

Minimum system requirements for Assassin's Creed

OS: Windows XP / Vista (only)
Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
RAM: 1 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries
Hard Drive Space: 8 GB
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller and a Xbox 360 Controller
GPU: ATI® RADEON® X1600** /1650** 1950/ HD 2000/3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce® 6800**/7/8/9 series. **PCI Express only supported

Running the game in Windows Compatibility Mode

As with some of our older titles that were released a good few years ago, you may need to run the game in Windows compatibility mode if using a modern PC, to emulate the Windows OS that the game originally ran on, at its time of release.

To do this, locate the games .exe game file -
Steam Library/Assassin's Creed 1/AssassinsCreed_Game.exe

Right click on the file and select the Properties option
Next, select the 'Compatibility' tab
Select the one of the older Windows OS - Windows XP/Windows Vista
Select Apply
Select OK
Launch game by double clicking on the games .exe file

Please note, the game also uses the older versions of DirectX, DirectX 9 and DirectX 10, please make sure these versions were installed with your game, if you run into any problems launching the game,
