I think it might be to do the with the movies not loading. I'm having the same issue and have let SNK know in the Technical Support forum

Same here. I can play the story up to a certain point before the games hangs on a black screen.

I'm on the same boat, I just posted about it, after every third fight in story mode the screen goes black post victory and the game stays like that.

Upon further testing, I noticed that whenever I start story mode a second time during a play session, it will result in a black screen, but I can still hear the audio and skip the cutscene.

I'm also having the same problem. It's a shame because every time I select the team, it just cuts into a black screen and I can't do anything from there

Good to know it isn't just a problem running the game over Proton; that at least narrows it down beyond an OS issue.

Having same issue, no problems with VS\Training\Tutorial, but story mode is just a black screen
