Hey; I honestly don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but by chapter 8-9, I've started to really struggle with combat, to the point that it only really takes one enemy turn to wipe half my units. And this is *with* heavy armour characters in the front, healers, all that sort of stuff. Even Diana's not doing well, and her squad is still stronger than all the others. I'm doing my best, keeping characters at the edges of attack zones, using archers to chip damage at a distance if they can't get into melee...

Struggling to use firearms, any advice?

I've got Lysander and another army I put together with the reductions to firearm capacity but despite trying a few different loadouts it feels like they rarely accomplish much, especially the cannons. I don't have some of the techs related to firearms yet so I'm not sure if I just need those for them to improve dramatically or what, just feels like my firearms are doing a lot less work than what I've seen the Imperial engines pull off....

"SPOILER" for AFTER chapter 12 i wish i knew beforehand, as a first timer...

Deleted and edited. My first time playing . I choose Warlord as hard should always be the default. Ok, so, after playing a few more maps after 12, ive come to this conclusion. Spoiler, so dont read if u dont want to know...but... I wish i actually did read spoilers somewhere about it myself. Now, what i did was to outfight my MC, lysander and a few others ,and only had 1 custom squad i made myself. Also, i had alot of good reserves. So, after chapter 12, you lose a portion of your army and all reserves...
