Command Line Pilot

Command Line Pilot

What type of game is this?
I enjoy turn-based tactics titles a lot, but there are a few games that seem to squeeze into the genre without allowing for much diversity in how one completes a stage/mission/fight. I’d point to Into the Breach as an example of such a game…more puzzler than tactical combat game. Compare Into the Breach with, say, BattleTech or X-Com…in the latter two, there are no set “solutions” to a mission because of the sheer variety of units/movements/actions available to the player. Into the Breach on the other hand really demands, especially on harder stages, that certain units are moved to certain squares on certain turns…”solving” a mission demands the right steps in order.

So, is Command Line Pilot a puzzle game where I need to play just the right cards in just the right order to move to the next stage? If I realize four turns in that I messed up, do I just need to restart the mission?

I’m looking to avoid puzzle games.

Hi FaintPulse,

Good question and nicely described in context of other games. Command Line Pilot was not designed for missions to have 1 single correct solution. For example if you have a mission where you need to avoid taking damage, will you do so by focusing on movement to move away from enemies or will you focus on killing the enemies before they can threaten you or a mix of both? The choice probably also depends on which Mech you're playing and which enemies you are facing. It's been fun for me as developer to see players playing a mission or Mech in a way that I hadn't thought of.

That being said, a lot players describe the game as having a puzzle-twist or a puzzle-feel to it. We have also received feedback that currently there's high replay value in doing a playthrough with a new Mech, because any previous 'solution' or 'approach' you had to a mission can not directly be applied to this new Mech because it has different cards and plays differently. However, we also received feedback that it would be nice to increase replay value in playing multiple playthroughs with the same Mech, as currently the mission does still feel like you can apply your previous 'solution'.

There are lot of nice video's on YouTube about Command Line Pilot. They can help you figure out if the game is right for you.

If it turns out that the game is not for you, Steam has a very nice refund feature. I've used it a couple of times when a game I bought just wasn't right for me, although I thought it would be. You can find more info about how to request a refund here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6695-QIKM-7966

If I had to compare Command Line Pilot to your examples of Into the Breach or BattleTech/X-Com then I think Command Line Pilot feels more like Into the Breach than BattleTech/X-Com.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
