Hi everyone!

A new free update for Guardians Frontline (Update 5) is now officially live on Steam!

New stuff:

- Three new species of bugs have been detected!
- Arack Level 2: This new unit is capable of burrowing and launching surprise attacks. It is invulnerable below ground unless you use the tactical view to make them visible.
- Insect Level 2: Bigger and stronger than regular insects, it launches a freezing attack that will paralyze any unit for 5s
- Siege Sentinel: This variant of the sentinel launches explosive projectiles at very long distances. It is a great complement to the linear attack of the sentinel as this one can launch parabolic shots.
- Added 10 new rank levels to level 50! Who will be the first Guardian to reach Supreme Commander?
- Added the ultimate skin for Guardians that reach Lvl50! This skin also offers 30% extra protection against explosive damage to keep those pesky bug bombs at bay.
- AK20 - Explosive projectiles: Added a secondary attack to the AK20, you can now shoot powerful explosive projectiles.

Improvements:

- Added the option to create private games right from the Campaign section.
- Added two more filters to the games list: slots available and game mode.
- Bugs will try to go to the nearest portal if they don't have a valid path to their targets.
- Improved sword blast usability and added tips.
- Added new sound effects to the insects and scorpion.
- Added new capability to nests to trigger defensive waves in conquer if the player attacks them (enabled in the map editor)
- Added option to reconnect
- Added new map section “Creators highlights” where certified map makers can showcase their latest maps (see map editor section for more details)
- Added more information to clearly differentiate between personal and team influence.

Rating system changes:

-Added a feedback form to let players inform when they rate a map as 1s (performance, game issues, etc.)
- The rating screen will only appear if the map is played in Normal, Hard or Insane, and the player has played for more than 8 minutes.
- Changed the rating formula of maps until they have 25 votes to include mean and median. This change will take into consideration

Fixes:

- Join list breaks when attempting to join someone offline or in full room
- Fixed the Environmental effects are too loud on PC
- Fixed ancient ladder asset missing faces.
- Fixed some landscape settings not saving correctly.
- Fixed laser traps blocking passage sometimes.
- Fixed several errors that could potentially create performance problems
- Fixed the "get all updates" accolade grayed out even though it was already completed.
- Fixed bots being created in PvP games but not showing up in the player’s list.
- Fixed mind control barrels not disappearing sometimes.
- Fixed if you set bugs to despawn option it switches it back when you play the published map.
- Fixed when you save with despawn bugs at stage end it also breaks lights so when you hold gun the light remains fixed to head.
- Added limits to the environmental effects intensity selectors to avoid visual artifacts when going over range.
- Fix: Potential fix for some players getting kicked out when they jump into a vehicle
- Fixed a color bug with the blades, when you change the color of the blade (to any color besides blue), then change the sword types, the glowing effect/fog around it is still blue
- Fixed being able to start a new galaxy conquest without pressing the Start button.

Balance:

- Reduced damage of swords to 0.1 vs 0.2 before on Lvl2 nests.

Editor:

- Conquer spawn mode: added the option to use all nests as possible spawn points instead of just the 2 closest to target.
- Ability to increase the HP of the nests
- The biome filter is now out of beta and available to everyone! You can now merge assets from different biomes in your maps like putting ice spires on the desert.
- Certified map makers can now highlight one of their maps and it will automatically show up in the “Creators highlights” section. Each map maker can only show one map at a time. Adding the map to this section will remove it from Featured or Top Rated if it’s there too.
- More co-authoring and collab options (beta):
- Added a new customizable Author field to publish maps as joint col·laborations
- Transfer map: You can now transfer maps to other map makers

- Added a new Supply Crate Respawner! This asset will automatically respawn a dropship crate on top of it at the frequency that you specify in the editor.

Editor:

  Spawn point restrictors: A long requested feature from our map makers, you can now place regular spawn balls next to a Nest and they will override those nest’s spawn points. This allows you to change the location of the spawn point and set restrictors like “only bosses” to spawn from that nest.

  Portals for players and units! You can now add teleport pads and connect them with a group id exactly like the occlusion volumes. When connected those portals will instantly teleport a player or any unit that enters the pad to the other end.

  Repairable walls: You can now place repairable walls in your maps that will block the movement of any Guardian or Bug unit. The bugs will target and destroy the walls and be able to go through them once they are destroyed. You can repair the walls at any time, even if they are destroyed.

  Custom damage and hp multipliers: you can now set very high or low damage and hp multipliers, to create super strong bugs. The bugs that are above 300% hp or damage will show up with a black skin and 20% bigger than regular bugs.

• Quick Re-connect system: If you get disconnected during the game you can now quickly rejoin and recover all your units and score you had before disconnecting. To do it just press "Re-Join" in the disconnected from server pop-up. We are still investigating the cause of the disconnects, but at least this feature should reduce the impact if they happen.
  
• Squad mode bonus: Playing in Squad mode now provides x2 more influence and research points to compensate for the extra difficulty.
  
• Crystal door locks are now multiplied by x1.5 for each player. So a door that needs 100 crystals to open with one player, with two players will need 150.

Hi everyone!

We have released a new update that comes with with a lot of graphics improvements, new weapons, new editor assets and fixes.


Campaign levels:

• Improved Decorations: We improved the decorations of all 13 campaign levels with extra vegetation, rocks, plants, decals, small props, etc.
  
• Better reflections: Water now has special shaders that provide environment reflections and shorelines which gives it a much more natural look.
  
• Improved ground shaders: All campaign and community levels now have custom PBR shaders and new textures which allow us for example to create specular reflections on the floor for greater realism.
  
• Environmental Effects: We added dust effects, snow effects, volumetric fog, local dimming volumes (with automatic flashlights), and rain to different levels in the campaign.
  
• Anisotropic filtering: Ground textures now have higher anisotropic filtering values to improve texture visualization at low angles which improves the terrain fidelity.
  
• Metallic shaders: Created new metallic shaders that improve the scene realism over the standard Unity shader/reflection spheres.

Community Maps:

• Realtime shadows: We added real-time shadows and automatic ambient lighting adjustments to all community maps.

More complex shaders and better texture resolutions:

• We have added tri-planar shaders that auto-activate when players stretch assets too much along an axis.
  
• Cliffs now have special shaders that increase the texture resolution when the player gets close to them.
  
• Water planes have now tri-planar mapping, so they keep the same wave size independently of the mesh size.

Galaxy Changes:
Our secret service reports that the overmind has discovered an ancient weapon of mass destruction capable of destroying all life in the galaxy. The device needs enormous amounts of perovskite to set off which gives us some time to stop the enemy, but there’s no time to lose.

• Guardians have to conquer all planets in less than 21 days to Win.
  
• A counter with the days remaining will be displayed on the Galaxy tab.
  
• New players will only need 100 influence points to get the reward (as they usually play on normal or hard).
  
• Advanced players (>Master) will need 250 influence points (as it is now)
  
• If Guardians don't win, nobody will get the reward of that Galaxy.

Friends List Improvements:

• Join friend: You can now automatically join a friend’s game from the friends panel!
  
• Custom Messages: Also send them messages even if they are offline.

Environment effects:

• Added the possibility to procedurally activate effects such as dust, snow, and rain in all community maps. The game automatically places those effects on the map at runtime and controls their activation when the player is nearby.

Tech Tree:
We added two new tech improvements:

• Mineral Collector LvL1: Extra HP
  
• Mineral Collector LvL2: Extra Collection speed
  
• New: Powerup - Double your unit HP for 2 minutes.

New weapon: Plasma Machine Gun:

• We have added a powerful machine gun to the Guardian's arsenal. It has slightly more damage per bullet than the AK6 but fewer bullets per mag and a bit less recoil.

New avatars:

• Added two new galaxy avatars:

Galactic Encyclopedia:

• You can now find information about the bug race on the computer screens of the main menu.

Other improvements:

• Added tooltips when selecting a conquered planet to explain which planets are available to attack.
  
• New Improved spaceship hero props with much higher polycounts and details.
  
• We now automatically remove the dying effect after a few seconds.
  
• Capsule locomotion (beta): We are working on a new locomotion system that will let you fall off ledges. You can try it by going to the settings menu > controls and -enabling capsule locomotion.

Editor improvements:

• New Asset pack! Industrial Assets: This pack comes with 60 new assets to create factories and perovskite refineries. Enjoy!

• Color picker: We added a new color picker tool to make it easier to select colors.
  
• Fog and Light color: Added the possibility to change the fog and light color of the scene.
  
• Adjust warpgate HP option: You can now change the default HP value of the warp gate in any game modes.
  
• Crystal door lock: Added a new lock option that allows you to lock doors by number of crystals.
  
• Procedural vegetation: Map makers can now also enable procedural vegetation in their maps. When they do it the game automatically generates small vegetation on the map depending on the map’s biome (4 biomes).
  
• Procedural Terrain painter: Automatically paints the terrain creating “shorelines” around any rocks or editor pieces for more natural transitions.

• Fixed some cases where it was still possible to go through doors with teleport locomotion.
  
• Fixed shotgun can go above 5 rounds if you pump it before firing.
  
• Fixed joining domination games mid game would not let you capture bases.

• You can now claim the galaxy mission rewards in the lobby even if you are not the host, no need to go back to the main menu anymore!
  
• Improved the saved game recovery system so we can change the save game in the backend and then players automatically get a notification to restore it
  
• The warpgate teleport upgrade is now disabled on maps that don't allow teleport points.
  
• Added a new tooltip to the Galaxy side missions explaining that they also contribute to influence points.
  
• Added a new editor Text Feedback Asset with a discord link so map makers can put it in their maps for additional feedback.
  
• Added a new system to download asset packs in-game. For now we just applied this to the bug lair assets, but we plan to add more if it works well.
  
• Disabled mushrooms by default on all maps, but added a new switch in the map editor to enable them if the map maker wants to.
  
• Added helper in snow rescue explaining how to open the arms to increase lift

Door improvements

• Players now automatically drop the key when they die.
  
• The key resets position to where first spawned if the player dies because of height limits.
  
• Added distance grab to the key. You can now easily grab the key even if it's floating above or below you.
  
• Fixed if the player holding the key leaves the room the key became ungrabbable
  
• Made it much harder to glitch through the door when is closed
  
• Added an option to the editor to make doors that never close

Balance

• The Air Strike is now much more powerful and destroys nests lvl2 even with the energy shield active.
  
• Reward boxes with 500 minerals in custom maps will not count towards adding player experience to avoid cheating.
  
• Reduced melee damage on lvl2 spawners.
  
• Added limitations to larvae spawn rates on Easy and Normal to make maps accessible to new players.

To reduce the effect of speedrunning in the galaxy we added number of bug kills to the influence formula. Now to get the all the influence points you now need to kill:

• 50 bugs on insane difficulty
  
• 25 bugs on hard difficulty
  
• 15 bugs on normal difficulty

Changes to map ratings

This update comes with several changes to how the map ratings work based on feedback we received from the community:

• The player has to play more than 3 minutes to rate a map.
  
• Changed the top rated and featured sections to update every day with a random list.
  
• Changed how the ratings calculation works so potential initial negative ratings weigh less than the subsequent positive ratings.
  
• We now recover the difficulty at which the player rated the map, we will make this information available to the map maker in the next update.

Badges now recalculate every time someone rates the map with this formula. From 10 to 25 ratings, the badge will be updated :

• 3.5-4 = Bronze
  
• 4-4.5 = Silver
  
• >4.5 = Gold
  
• At 25 votes, if rating > 4.5 = Platinum
  
• At 50 votes, if rating > 4.5 = Diamond

Badges can only increase, never decrease.


Fixes

• Fixed Mushrooms blinding players for an entire match if killed right after they spawned
  
• Fixed being able to change the difficulty in the play again panel on single difficulty maps

Cheers!

• Mushroom: This new defensive structure releases a toxic gas around it that damages you and your units. To kill it you’ll need to get close and shoot at the bright point below the mushroom’s head. Map makers can also place this asset in their maps as a standalone unit.

• Dragonfly: We replaced the old Dragon unit for a Dragonfly, it has a bit more hp than the old Dragon but the same ranged attacks and fits much better with the Bug faction.
  

With this update we are adding a powerful new tool to the Guardian arsenal, inventory power-ups! You can now buy them in the loadout menu before the game starts and use them at any time during the fight.

• Updated maps section: Added a new section to browse recently updated maps to differentiate from recently published maps

• Asset Favorites: You can now group all your favorite assets under the same tab for quick access.

Update 1 is now live and brings a ton of new stuff and improvements to the game!

New Vehicles

• Tank: a heavily armored two-seater vehicle that will crush any bug force in its path.
  
• Hover bike: a light and very fast armored vehicle

New Weapons

• Medic Gun: The medic gun can drain hp from enemies and use it to repair or cure the player or other units. It can also revive fallen guardians with its projectile.

New Units:

• Scorpio LvL2: Very fast and light unit with high rate of fire but relatively low range. Kill them as soon as you see them!

New Tech tree items

• Bow L1: Explosive Arrows
  
• Bow L2: Teleport Arrow
  
• Sniper AK8 L1: +2 bullets
  
• Sniper AK8 L2: Bullet (damages up to five units in a row)
  
• Drone L2: Repair Drone (automatically repairs nearby units)

• Planet Modifiers: We have added planet modifiers that Guardians and Bugs can buy. Modifiers are lost when the opposing faction conquers the planet.
  
• Top Contributors: You can now check who are the top contributors to each planet and the whole galaxy.
  
• News report: Added a new section to show the latest news from the front.

New and improved stuff

• Head lights: Map makers can now enable headlights in some maps. Beware that the lights have a performance cost, so please only use it in simple maps.
  
• Friends lists: We added a "social" tab where you can see all the friends you added in game. To add a friend you can do it from the scoreboard tab in the multitool menu, or from the last played list.
  
• Added a new "friends only" filter to the join games list.
  
• Added a "Last played" list in the Social tab.
  
• Avatars now launch auto calibration when selecting them in the mirror.
  
• Teleport points are now numbered in the minimap
  
• Added new text notifying the map maker that they need to win the map to publish it.

Bug Lair assets Pack

• Added 63 new assets to create creepy bug lairs and hideouts!

Lava Biome

• The new biome comes with new effects like fire, 4 new skyboxes and new cliffs and lava pools to decorate your maps.

Map Editor

• Added per unit restrictors to the enemy spawn points. You can now select which enemies can spawn from where.
  
• Added a new setting for Occlusion Volumes that, instead of selecting all the assets inside the volume, will only select object groups. This gives you much more precision over what needs to hide.
  
• Improved textures for the Space Biome
  
• Box Selection (left trigger rotates the box): Use it to create prefabs.
  
• Added new Local dimming volumes. They are very useful for creating dark environments.
  
• Added negative button to the scale keyboard
  
• Supremacy: Added a new setting to configure the time to win.

Fixes

• Fixed changing the difficulty when playing the same level again would not synchronize the difficulty to all players
  
• Escort: Fixed the miner would stop moving if any client used the gravity gun on it.
  
• Escort: Fixed players joining mid game would potentially break the game.
  
• Fixed not being able to press "add to slot" from edit loadout before entering a map with weapon limitations.
  
• Fixed destroyed vehicles getting the hands stuck.
  
• Fixed not being able to recycle your vehicles after someone else used them.
